[jazzguitar] Re: Needed

Steve Gallagher

From: Awseyler@... [mailto:Awseyler@...]

Below is a list of the CDs/LPs that I need!
PASS JOE FOR DJANGO
I got this CD last year from one of the big online
vendors. It cost about $20, but is well worth it.

Steve Gallagher

[jazzguitar] software for transcription

jrz

Just seeing what software you all use for transcribing solos. I can run
Windows or Linux.

The Slow Speed CD Transcriber
() is pretty cool, but over
priced for what I need it for (imo). The demo also has annoying limitations
that prevent me from actually seeing if it's worth giving up my old method
of camping in front of a CD player.

I'm looking for a cheaper solution, hopefully a free one. This isn't rocket
science, the algorithms used are freely available. All I really need is
something that can perform a time/pitch shift of a wav file. If I could get
motivated, I could do it myself and maybe GPL it.

Just seeing what's out there.

To my knowledge McLaughlin used his archtop Gibson with a midi interface
that added the hammond B3-like EFX. I saw him perform this live and that
was the "sound."

There is one good trick:
1) You must see the chord tones on your fretboard (1, 3, 5, 7).
2) If you see them you can do the next exercise: playing the chord
over stop on any tone and try to find the nearest tone of the next
chord and then build the scale to play the next chord over from the
tone you found.

This talk has led me to a related topic... Soloing! As a "rocker teen"
I
became accustomed to using one scale for an entire solo section (never
switching keys... Eb Blues all the way!:). Anyway, in the process I did
develop a "soul" of sorts for the music... I have gotten over the scale
syndrome of just running without meaning...

My new problem that my guitar teacher and I have started working on is
REAL
soloing, playing the changes! I want to keep it simple because it's
extremely difficult to me for some reason. We are using the boxed method

and when a new chord comes I get shellshocked and can't find the next
scale.
I'm just trying to go from say C Lydian to F Lydian. Anyway, is there
a
trick to this or what?! Thanks!

Jack, good ideas all. Unfortunatly on many of the gigs and rehearsals I do I
don't have allot of control over the size of the room or my relative proxsemity
to my amp(when recording it's usually easier to control these things)and it seems
I'm often right on top of the thing. One thing that seems to help sometimes is to
get my amp off the ground, but that doesn't work all the time.

Thanks,
Brad

Cool Edit Pro is not share/freeware. It is also not inexpensive, but
does contain a pretty powerful studio application. Cool Edit 2000 with
the Audio Cleanup plugin is considerably less money but does not have
the same level of studio applications. Info available from
Syntrillium.com.

Anyone have any ideas on minimizing feedback on a Jazz guitar? I play a
59 Gibson 175 with one pickup. It's a fairly light and resonant guitar,
which I like, but I prefer to leave Ted Nugent to cover the feeback
with a Jazz guitar school.

Thanks,
Brad Rabuchin

[jazzguitar] Re: Feedback

I have a 1957 ES 175D also and my suggestion is to roll the bass off on your
amp and if you have a mid level put it very low maybe on 1or 1 and a half.
Keep the speaker of the amp to your side so your guitar isn't in front of the
amp. This works for me. I use two amps and run them stereo . I never have to
worry about feedback. I hope this helps.
Peace,
Teddy

Well, you could blow baloons up inside the body so it seals up the F holes
(good luck), OR.... you can go to a luthier (or friend woodworker) and have
him cut out 2 plates that resemble your F holes. Make them about 1/4 inch
larger than the ones on your guitar. Make them out of ebony or a DARK wood
(maybe dark stain). Then place foam rubber on the backs. Place the foam into
your F holes (you will still have the "cosmetic" look of F Holes once you put
them in). This way you can remove them whenever you want.

THIS WORKS!

My LPs to CDs are turning out fantastic! In light of this, I want to
offer you this service!
Send me your LPs and I will record them, clean them up (take out MOST if not
all of the pop and crackle) and put them on CD for you. All you have to pay
is $5 per CD. The money is for the cost of return shipping (both LP and CD),
my time and the CD that I put it on!

If interested email me!
