Christmas thought
Well gang.
I hope you all have been busy with the Christmas season. I know for me the
gigs come hot and heavy for awhile starting with the Christmas parties back
in November.
I have found the

Re: Gibson headstock weakness
Generally it seems to be a slight knock - either falling off a stand
or bumping into the side of a doorway, classical guitars have the same
problem.
Splicing the headstock on does get rid of the

Re: Gibson headstock weakness
Brian, I had the exact same thing happen to my first ES-335. I tapped the head while walking through a doorway. The breakage was similar as well. I wrote it off as a total loss, bought a new one

Re: double time bossa nova?
Alistair,
Thanks for the link. That was great.
The thesis speaks to the importance of Partido Alto. It doesn't, to my reading, justify the notion that Partido Alto is the trunk of the tree.
It is,

Re: Gibson headstock weakness
Gibson headstocks are pretty easy to break. I just tapped one one night walking through a doorway. I hit the back of the headstock in the same direction that the string would be pulling the headstock

Re: Gibson headstock weakness
Hi Juan,
Maybe--although that would seem to be something they could correct easily. Most of my Gibsons are "Historics", which means they try to replicate the old guitars as closely as possible in

Re: Gibson headstock weakness
Hi Jeff,
My guess is that the grain of the wood runs in a way that can't adequately
accommodate the tension generated by the strings. These days, I've
noticed some guitars have headstocks that

Re: double time bossa nova?
Alistair, Can you explain what you mean by "Partido Alto Rhythm"?
I know the term, but have always heard it applied to a certain samba variant. I had not heard that Bossa grooves were based on it.

They don't just fall off, of course, so what happens to these guitars
that causes the headstock to break? I know a guy who had his Explorer
headstock break, but he banged it into something fairly

Re: double time bossa nova?
What you may be referring to is a Samba. Bossa Nova generally refers to a style of music from 1958¨C1963, but has come to encompass anything Bossa Nova like! Bossa Nova evolved from Samba but is

My teacher grew up in Rio and played with a number of the original Bossa giants. So, his opinion means something. That said, I think it's always true that it's easier to describe the center of a

Re: double time bossa nova?
That's an interesting statement, not sure I'd agree, but... Kinda like saying be-bop is an era, I think bossa nova is definitely a genre of music, as I previously defined it, but to each his own.
