Thanks, Bobby,
This is one of my concerns. ;-) I don't know metric from schmetric...!
You mean the holes where the speaker attaches to the baffle might not fit? Duh.....?????

Re: replacement speaker for JC 55

Hi Jim,
I am looking for replacement speakers for a JC 55. They are 8 inch, 8 ohms. Someone has recommended Eminence Beta 8A.
I like Eminence speakers for the price. I'm not familiar with the Beta 8A, but I've never heard an Eminence speaker I didn't like, and they hold up very good. Any amp you like is worth a decent speaker. My only problem with Roland amps is I seem to remember them being metric, and nostandard, and so you may need a Roland replacement (which sucks). Make sure the speaker will fit without having to pull out a router!

best,
Bobby

replacement speaker for JC 55

I am looking for replacement speakers for a JC 55. They are 8 inch, 8 ohms. Someone has recommended Eminence Beta 8A. I got this amp off ebay for $150. Is it worth it to spend this much for replacements? The speakers that came with the amp are old and tired. I like this little amp a lot. It could be a real gig amp. Like everybody else I want a great sounding amp that is light weight. I have some nice amps, but they are either too big or too finicky. I keep a Roland cube 30 in my car just in case my gig amp fails. Heretofore I have used a Polytone baby brute, but it has become untrustworthy.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Jim

Re: I thought playing the guitar for a living was a hard gig!

Hi Scott,
Playing guitar for a living IS a hard gig. It is also a blessed one. To
be able to make your living with your instrument is a wonderful thing.
Thanks for reminding me.
Amen.

Re: Microphone question

Nice riff, though.

Yea I book marked it as I was in the middle of something else.

guitar.

Yeah, amazing isn't it that a member of a jazz guitar list would watch the guitar and guitarist's hands and not notice the vocal mike <G>?

Nice riff, though.

Hi Ron, There is a headset mic in the video that is mic'ing his voice. I
don't know the model of it, however.
I am assuming that is the mic in question. Not what is picking up the
guitar.<

Yes, that is the mic in question. I guess it would be hard to ID it exactly, so I guess what I'm looking for are recommendations for similar mics with enough quality for singing and not just things like business presentations.

Re: Eric Clapton plays Autumn Leaves

I didn't dislike it, and I listened to the whole thing, but I didn't find it inspiring.
Clapton was fabulous with Cream and Blind Faith. Maybe I like his later work less because I liked the earlier stuff so much.

I'm with you. I think it's wretched "FM Lite" elevator music.

I'd have to be Al Schmitt to answer that question. I thought maybe

Some times cameras have a compression algorithm as part of the input

signal plath, amp plays a huge role as well. Variables like crazy.
I
liked the lick tho. Why not email the guy and ask what his signal
path was. Hell, it could have been direct into the camera for all we

know. If so that would be the camera to get if you are into making
vids.

How to identify Duncan 59s pickups?

Hi!

The guy from whom I have bought my Epi Sheraton claimed that he put Duncan 59s in place of the original Epi ones, but I have a doubt now.

I have not removed the pups and there is no visible engraving on the surface. Any means to know if they are actual Duncans?

Thanks,
Marc

Re: I thought playing the guitar for a living was a hard gig!

Wow. Thanks for sharing the experience with us, Jim. And your music. But most of all, your heart and soul. It's a treasure "knowing" you here in the ether.
As I get older I have, we must all have, a similar easing of the egoic need to judge and control things. It's so much easier to enjoy and appreciate what's there in front of us, isn't it?
Peace to you.
Terry

Hi folks.

Often as musicians, we find ourselves sending and receiving files that are too big to be emailed.

There are sites like yousendit.com and sendspace.com that allow for larger file transfers, but I've lately been using Dropbox to do this. It has several benefits over the competition. To check it out, please visit:

Microphone question

Anybody know what mike is being used in this video and if it is good for singing or designed mostly for speech?

Re: Eric Clapton plays Autumn Leaves

Hi Brian
Rickie Lee Jones is another one of those pop stars that fools with jazz styled standards that I like.
She did a wonderful "My Funny Valentine"! One of my favorites!

If you haven't heard it yet Steven Tyler from Aerosmith singing "Smile" in front of the Boston Symphony Orchestra is to die for. It's part of an all-star production fronted by Chris Botti. I saw it while getting my computer fixed in Best Buy and I was so impressed I bought the DVD right then and there.
I thought it was the weakest part of the whole concert actually. I
love Chris Botti and love the whole "In Boston" recording but find the
Steve Tyler stuff too rock-ish. Emmanuel with Lucia Micarelli is more
my speed (not jazz at all though).
