Ravi Shankar was one of the huge musical milestones in my own life ever since I heard him in the mid 60s. His influence on Rock & Pop transcended genres and genrations -- he affected ALL MUSICA worldwide. I was a huge fan.
I saw Ravi with?Alla Rakha on tabla and Maya Kulkarni on tambura at the Woodstock festival on August 15, 1969. The trio took to the stage at 10pm on a rainy Friday night in front of a crowd of thousands.

The legendary Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar, a major influence on Western musicians including The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, has died at the age of 92, Indian television said.
Shankar, who was the father of the American singer-songwriter Norah Jones, died in a hospital in San Diego where he had travelled to undergo surgery, the CNN-IBN network reported on Wednesday.
The prime minister's office confirmed his death and called him a "national treasure".
