I'm playing a sort of modernish jazz style, (Frisell,
Goodrick, Rosenwinkel) and am currently playing
a 335 type guitar.
I'm beginning to consider an SG for a future guitar and
I'm interested in what people have to say about its acoustic
tone versus say, Les Pauls and 335s or other solidbodys
with maple tops. Also, which models had ebony
fingerboards, whether the tune-a-matic bridges with
thick posts sound different than those with thin posts, plastic
versus metal saddles, etc...
I assume I'll gut the electronics so pickup
recomendations would be welcome, (I need piano-like
chord tones, but the harmonics should start jumping when
I get bluesy. I'll probably go with three pickups to get
the strat "in between positions" tones, I don't care whether
I have to have it cut).
Of course, better years would be nice to know about as
well as opinions about Guild SG-like models and Epiphones.
Thanks a lot,
Bob Valentine
