I have gone to Kent Armstrong or Benedetto (originally Kent's stuff) pickups
on many of my jazz guitars.
Massive improvement in sound.
Also, I typically change the tone pot to push/pull and use it to coil tap
between single coil and dual coil.
Single coil is a great option on a Jazz box.
