? I've posted this several times.? ? The original spring rubs against the deck shell and this causes two problems; it will wear through the spring and it wears a groove in the shell, which are usually thinned by rust anyhow.? In a deck restoration of an unusually good shell, I created a post with a 3/8" x 1 1/4"?cap screw?and two nuts, the top of which is self-locking.? The nuts are separated?sufficient for the spring loop to secure.? The spring was hard to find with the right dimensions and tension.? I found it at the local Sentry Hardware Store;?it is a Servalite #63AU with the following specs.: ?
? It appears this Servalite line of springs is common for hardware stores, so hopefully there is one in your area and you would not have to order it.? This is the only spring I found that would do the job as described. ?Instead of the 1" diameter of the original, this spring is 3./4" diameter, but has roughly the same tension.??The wire size was about 0.094"; it had extended hooks.? This and the higher stud mount keeps it from rubbing the deck shell.? I had to shorten one of the extended?hooks of the spring and bend a new loop for it to fit right, but this was simple to do.? After the pix were taken, I caulked the original spring slot, so debris would not accumulate in the belt compartment.? ? Hope this helps. ? On Behalf Of bs2251813 ? I'm pretty sure this has been posted before but I can't seem to find the answer. My idler pulley tension spring broke on my Ford
42 inch steel deck. The New Holland dealer says it is discontinued. Has anyone found an alternative?
