Re: Jacks Off On Campus Rugby

Ok people, I am just getting caught up on personal emails now.? ?If I go into a long diatribe sorry, I don't get to this a lot so I try to knock it out all at once.??

Lester, Please book a block of hotel rooms.? I heard the Staurlite?is still there and Holly's is gone across the street.??
Who is in for a room?? Then who is in to share a room?? This is just a headcount for Lester.

Mogli,? Congrats on graduating!? Graphic Design?? No clue that major was up there.? ?Shoot me an email at Smuns@....? I have a couple of ideas for T shirts for the 30th.??

Sim,? If Sully's is rugby bar we will go there for sure.? Cliffy, us old guys who used to pay rent at Ray's and play 7-14-21 can do that either Thursday or Friday night.? ?We need to get Sully's some good framed gear to hang in the bar.??

Sim, also good email to start this thread.? Tate, Rodney, Fiala, etc will not disappoint?on what they bring for Saturday's festivities.? We need to get them numbers on who is showing up for the 30th and if you are bringing anyone with.? So please respond if you are coming, how many people, and if you need a room.? ?I will start with, 3 people for sure with me and I am going to get at least 1 room.? See how that works?? Pretty easy.??

- Sexauer and Pioneer park have a lot of sentiment for the early days of the club and the success of the club.? We don't need goal posts but it shouldn't be hard to get cones and paint for the pitch.? ?Do we have that confirmed yet?? Is there a cost involved???

- Good idea on text thread to find founders.? We need to find the green/black quarters boys.? Greggy H can you help Retzer, Springman, Fiala, etc with it please?? Retzer and yourself still have the most brain cells working.? Ferdig and Toby would have knowledge of that also.

- MVP-? I like that idea Sim but my vote goes to all that are involved in setting this up.? We all have busy lives and I appreciate people volunteering to do whatever they can.? ?That is what makes a great club!

- Lady Jacks- They started when I was still at State and if I remember correctly a few of us helped coach them at the beginning but had no clue what happened and would love for them to be involved.??

Caden, keep us updated on matches and what the club is up to.? Fundraising efforts, recruiting, and any needs the club has should be emailed to the club alumni email a couple times a month.? ?I would like to raise enough money to send them on a club trip to play matches.? Denver has great rugby and the men's club Highlanders will take you under their wing, I am sure of that.? We went all over the place and played.? The active club should also.??

We are just over 4 months out or about 137 days!!!!!? ? Let's get this planning done so we can party!

I thought we might eventually move to Sully's Irish Pub (formerly Safari Lounge). We've got a good relationship with the owner and for a few generations of us it was the unofficial bar of SDSU rugby.?

In this week's update:?
* pitch for September 10 alumni match
* food?+ bev organization
* search for founding members
* "My MVP" award
* Where you at ladies??
* scores / standings
* design assets?
* Sim leans harder into the "Jacks Off" thing cuz I'm a child?

Pitch Update?
Scrum?Hansen ('92-'96), coordinating with current Captain Caden Runia, is working on getting us the Sexauer Pitches. We probably won't have goalposts or even field paint, but it seems a better location to facilitate both family camping and off field shenanigans. Should be perfect weather for it on the weekend of September 10. Also we have a lot of sentimental attachment?to Sexauer Park. Speaking personally, those forests and fields?following the creek north of the park are where I first dissociated on psychedelics. Great (lack of) memories.?

Food + Bev Call Out?
Now that the pitch is being organized, it's time for Heath Rodney ('97-'99), Rob Fiala ('92-'94), and Tate Lantz ('??-'??) to start planning things.? Anyone else who wants to contribute here, speak up. We're also talking to Brennan Sully of Sully's Irish Pub (formerly the Safari Lounge) about having an all ages social on his back patio (newly constructed - they have an outdoor activity area where all ages are welcome). W/r/t moving our social downtown after the match, some are in favor, some are against. We solicit your opinions (yeah that's YOU! Reply to this email and tell us what you think).?

Search for Founders?
We texted with Tony Springman ('91-'93) and he's been helping get us in touch with the founders. We started a text thread which so far just includes ourselves, Doug Wetzer ('92-'95),??aun Mun§Ù?('92-'96), and Rob Fiala ('92-'94).?If you want to be part of that text thread, message us directly. We have named Greg Hawerlander, Steve Tramp, Mike Wold, and Toby Garrant. So far only Greg is on this mailing list, so let's get on LinkedIn or SeekingArangment?or wherever those old guys hang out and track them down please.?

"My MVP" Program?
As a 30th anniversary match, we're obviously always looking to find and honor the founding ruggers in Brookings. But there are a lot of ruggers from later generations who different dudes looked up to as leaders. For example, I was a Jacks rugger '06-'11 and Joseph Galvin "Jesus" is my MVP for ____ reasons, but don't tell him cuz I want to surprise him with an award on September 10. If you want to nominate someone for the "My MVP" award (a guy who showed you the ropes, who helped you become a man, or just you remember him being a strong leader on / off the pitch) message us privately and we will nominate him for an award which will be presented on the weekend of the alumni match.?

Lady Jacks
Depending on the year, the ladies' side has been the flagship rugby program on the SDSU campus, and it will be a shame if we don't see them on September?10. I know a few ladies are receiving these email updates, but we really hope to reach out more and get them looped in. If you want to see the value of Women's Rugby, have a look to USD - Women's Rugby is keeping the sport alive in Vermillion, the Men's side has died. I'd like to get Sara Smith ('04?-08?) involved in this. Who were the first Lady Jacks On The Rugby Pitch? I guess now they are Jacking Off somewhere (told you I would work in that tortured pun).?

Match Updates / Standings
Today (9 April) the boys are heading up to Moorehead to play, joined by SF Crow. The boys intend to?bring a squad of their best to the All Minnesota Rugby Union match on 23 April. Mankato comes to Brookings 30 April.

After a hard fought away match resulting in a tie with NDSU 5 March, the boys went to Wayne tourney and won 2 / lost 2. Their two losses kept them out of the top 5 - both matches were lost by less than a try (against St. John's and St. Benedectine). If you haven't heard, the Wayne St. tourney has been banished from Wayne, NE and is now held in Sioux City, IA. The straw that broke the camel's back was the robbery of a cherished Dalmation dog sculpture from the front of the local firefighter's department. Of course, this was only the last shenanigan in decades of rugby related shenanigans in Wayne. But the city council did decide, this was the last - a bridge too far. Reliable sources inform me that the stolen Dalmation sculpture was somehow located in Brookings, SD the following week, and upon news of the gravity of the crime, the dog was returned to the front of the firefighter's department in the middle of the night, dressed in pink lingerie. It's a hilarious story, should make us Brookings boys proud, and makes us think that, if they're not gonna reinstate the tourney in Wayne, we should go steal that fucking dog again. But it's also a sobering reminder that shenanigans can hurt local rugby clubs. Shenanigan responsibly, please.?

In other updates. are champions of the ,?partially due to being bad ass and partially due to technicality. Please hold your applause. We plan on moving next season and playing internationally. While spamming IG links, .?

Design Assets?
We have a Google Drive where alumni are encouraged to . Vintage logos, signage, and other promotional material are especially solicited, although team photos and action shots are also accepted so we can see your stupid fucking face. The Jacks Off? want to see your face (for unspecified reasons).

Three cheers for rugby.?
