Hello from France,

?

I received JackAl this morning and I’m very happy.

Just one question about bag of parts : where I can purchase these parts ?

Bonsoir Jacques:

Alas, these must be purchased "on your own". If we had them fabricated on the board, it would have more than tripled the cost of the board. It's actually cheaper to buy them separately.

I have attached the latest BOM for the parts that are needed, but not on the board. (The file can also be downloaded from hamradiodesigns.com. If you haven't downloaded the files there in the last couple of days, you should re-download them as we have updated the files.) If no specific reference is given in the BOM, type the part description into the eBay search bar to find vendors. This way, you might be able to find vendors in your own country. In other cases, we have supplied a manufacturer's part number for ordering.

BTW, if you know other hams who have the JackAl board, combine your order and see if you can get a quantity discount.

Think I got all the files downloaded, etc. Did not see any software for the teensy? Comes already on the board?

Ron:

We finally found the source of the software problem that was plaguing me for the past 5 days. My guess is we will have the software ready within 24 hours.

I will post a notice to this (and other) groups when we have it up on the web site ready for download.

In my experience, 98% of the REALLY difficult problems occur in the last 2% of the project development cycle.?

As far as software development goes: Been there - Done that - Got the 'T' Shirt!

Thanks to you, Jack!

Jack, documents show either a 5" or 7" display. Any chance the 3.5" display will work as well? (Already got a box, and it's 4" wide).

Whose display is it? Everything is based on an HD screen size (800x480) and I don't know of any 3.5" display with that resolution, so I'd be surprised if it worked, but the chip is unique for the display, too, which means the libraries are. The 5" display is only just over 3" tall, maybe there's a way to work it in.

I was thinking about the extras left over from the AA, but as usual I was all wet.
(Thought the 5" would have to be it's width?)
Anyway you solve the problem...the 5" obviously will fit my box.
Thanks much for the hand holding, enthused about the project!

Ron,
One other consideration worth mentioning here - the 5" display and I believe the 7" as well (I have several of the 5" version but no 7") for the JackAl uses the RA8875 controller chip and libraries. ?I went looking for a 3.5" display that uses the same library and controller and found nothing. ?Not saying there ain't one out there, but Google and I didn't find it. ?Also I didn't find any 3.5" screens that use an 800 X 480 format so it's a pretty good bet that your 3.5" display can't be used as it stands right now.
