This weekend is finishing my taxes, but we have set aside some time to improve the doc files.

I haven't seen anyone posting complete success yet. ?I had to abandon mine as I only have Version 5 uBITX boards, having gotten rid of all the old V3 and V4 ones. They've been promising V5 software for a couple weeks now but so far nothing on the website (before it got hacked). ?

I had the board working, but not connected to a radio before I sold it. ?Just got tired of waiting for the promised firmware that would run on Version 5 uBITX boards.

I'll probably get flamed for posting this, but it is what it is and I won't build another one until everything becomes stable. ?I have too many other hobbies to pursue (new spectrum analyzer and got a nice 3D printer for my birthday).

Re: what would cause the secondary encoder to stop working

On the encoders, Al recently had one that suddenly started sending out "short" pulses that got missed in the software. The short pulses were more or less random, but it caused the encoder to behave irregularly because the pulse train was screwed up. If you have a scope, check it out.

Re: what would cause the secondary encoder to stop working

Make sure it's "fried' before you give up, as we had one "come back to life" after a new regulator.

Re: hamradiodesigns.com hacked???

When you're back up I recommend ? it is a pretty good basic security plugin.? It won't stop someone really intent on harm but it stops a lot of random nonsense.? Once I started using it on several sites I was amazed at how many random attack attempts it stopped.

Re: hamradiodesigns.com hacked???

Yes. we noticed it earlier today and informed our ISP. So far, they have not been able to eradicate it. For now, stay away. I post here when it's fixed.

JackAl AssemblyManual (Ver16)-Section 2 - Figure 2- 21 Clock & Control Cable Detail

Johannes Pammer

JackAl AssemblyManual (Ver16)-Section 2 .docx

So Pin header 11 and 12 in the figure "Figure 2- 21 Clock & Control Cable Detail" and the figure "Figure 2- 22 Clock & Control Cable Wiring" contradict each other.
which is correct for the 6-pole plug?

Re: what would cause the secondary encoder to stop working

VInce:

I don't understand the request. The schematic is in the documentation. I've attached a copy here. Note the encoder connections are even separated out in the schematic.

Jack,
When will there a full schematic of the board be available?
it would be nice now to have a snippet of that part of the board that handles all the encoders..
Also now making the ribbon cable for the encoders a bit shorter to eliminate any possible noise, as they are a bit on the long side (trying to decide case size)
Vince

Re: what would cause the secondary encoder to stop working

Al put a scope on one that was giving us trouble and found the pulse was about 1/4 the length it should have been. As you know, it is reading the pulse chain from both lines that lets you determine the rotation. I just bought a bunch of Bourne encoders? Arrow carries the Bourne encoder for about $1.35. Their ad doesn't say it has a switch, but the same part number on Mouser says is does. However, Arrow sends US orders overnight with free delivery! (I have no clue how they do that.)

So looked at the outputs...and yes pretty narrow pulses...I've tried other encoders...at home and it didn't work.
Guess what...Hooked it up here and i could get both encoders to work.? secondary encoder a bit flakey...seems that? it is not sampling the output of the pulses fast enough.
Off to a meeting.
What are we looking for?? as far as pulse width on the output?
Can you adjust the clock? or will that hork up everything else?
