JMT permitting trailheads in Yosemite

It's my understanding that the Whitney exit quota only applies to Inyo, not to any of the adjacent jurisdictions. Sierra NF does have the extra fee and your permit must state Whitney if you plan to exit Whitney Portal. When Sierra NF converted to Recreation.gov, they patterned their policies after Inyo NF, rather than reinventing their own set. Something might have gotten caught up in their adoption of Inyo's policies that shouldn't have. I'm not sure. I have not heard of anyone getting a Sierra NF permit who has not received their permit when they've used the Whitney exit. But please keep me posted.? -- Inga Aksamit

If you look at the available permits for any given date for Overnight and Overnight exiting Whitney, you will find that the available permits are exactly the same.? I didn't compete the permit process, but you can test it getting one permit and checking to see if it was also subtracted from the other category.?
