Re: Tuolumne Master Plan Info, as promised
I appreciate the sympathy, but any teen or twenty-something kid will suggest just ¡±Print to PDF". Scan and OCR shouldn't even be necessary. That's been true for twenty years or more, now.

Re: Tuolumne Master Plan Info, as promised
I am guessing that you are on to something there. The only PDFs I ever receive that are scans rather than searchable text are those coming from lawyers and occasionally corporate reports where the

Re: Tuolumne Master Plan Info, as promised
I do wonder what happened. The only documents that are not in searchable PDF form are the Record of Decision (ROD) and the Biological Opinion. (The link to the Biological Opinion fails on the page

Re: Tuolumne Master Plan Info, as promised
Richard, do you really think the NPS has the resources to provide up to date technology and professional development training? Good lord, look at their funding. As someone who works in the public

Re: Tuolumne Master Plan Info, as promised
Pretty pathetic that a document prepared just a few years ago had to be scanned to put it online, and no one was able to OCR it. Sigh. Not surprising, though. I've had to educate several firms about

If you want to jump forward to their most difficult day (Oct 8 cold and snowy and running short on food) use this start point. https://youtu.be/8wvFSmEpaWQ?t=1721 Luckily the snow wasn't deep enough
Re: Nice video of current conditions on the JMT and the impact of an early season snow
They have been wonderful to watch. I caught some of their videos earlier in the season, when they were heading NoBo through Oregon. Splendid, warm attitudes!

Tuolumne Master Plan Info, as promised
Here are some interesting details from the 2014 Tuolumne River Plan, of which the Tuolumne Meadows Campground closure and reconstruction is an important part. This does not tell the whole detailed
Re: We need to provide input to ESTA's Short Range Transit Plan
Looks to me like we need a new thread for the general redevelopment issues.? The feedback to ESTA on transportation piece of it I think deserves its own discussion.? I will go back and get the key

Nice video of current conditions on the JMT and the impact of an early season snow
I¡¯ve been following a group of three impressive women who have been doing the PCT this year , but in the last week they just completed a section of the JMT from Red¡¯s Meadow to Kearsarge Pass and

Re: We need to provide input to ESTA's Short Range Transit Plan
The map shows three proposed locations for the new vault toilet. If you read the text you will discover what is obvious to anyone who has visited TM in the winter. That is, that locations 2 and 3

Re: We need to provide input to ESTA's Short Range Transit Plan
Huh? That's just a plan to replace the elevated plastic porta-potty that's open only in the winter with a permanent structure. It's got nothing to do with the backpacker's camp.

I hiked up in the Olympics this summer where they have designated campgrounds along the trails that include privies. Both are needed because the heavy undergrowth makes distributed camping much more

Re: We need to provide input to ESTA's Short Range Transit Plan
Actually the need for a bathroom in a camping area makes perfect sense. Otherwise people will be polluting every open space. I sure wouldn't be going for a long walk at 3am. But I am also one of those
