In recent years, there has been a trail sign for Baxter Pass near Dollar Lake designating the junction and the sign says the trail is is unmaintained, so at least hikers know where the junction is.

I don’t know Baxter pass. The hike through big wet meadow, Colby lake, Colby pass and beyond is fantastic. Definitely camp at Colby lake if you can. The trail across Colby pass was in great shape
