a campfire permit is included with wilderness permits issued by Inyo, Sequoia and Sierra national forests. some others as well. while it's probably a good idea to get the permit anyways, it's not

I have only done this area in sept./oct. and temps were 60/70F daytime and
15/25F at night. Guitar was low teens as was the sunrise summit at Whitney.

I doubt you¡¯ll need microspikes but I would bring a sleep system that can handle temps in the teens, maybe some down booties in lieu of microspikes. Hopefully the smoke clears by then.

P.S. A campfire permit is required if you plan to use a stove. You have to watch a short video, and take an 8 question quiz. The permit is good through the end of the year.
