From the summit of Mt. Whitney, it is 10-11 miles to Whitney Portal and 28-29 miles to Horseshoe Meadows. The difference is only 18 miles, which is well under 3 extra days. And the hike out would be much more pleasant than passing the hordes of hikers on the Portal trail.?
