Mono Pass (South) is a day or two from Lake Edison. So you could get an Inyo permit for that portion, then a Sierra NF permit for Mono Creek (the ferry landing) to the Portal. You would have to get SNF to cooperate in regards to their usual rules about picking up the permit.
