Hi Andrew
I got Cottowood?Pass to Kearsarge pass (which is your reverse).? From what I see, entering Kearsarge pass is easier to get a permit, particularly on Wed, Thu through Sat.? In fact, there are still some permits left to leave Kearsarge Pass on Saturday July 8 (a day later than it opened).
Cottonwood pass seems to be the most popular trailhead?perhaps because you can do the entire JMT NoBo.
If I did not get that permit, I would have tried mid-week or started at OV and gone southbound.
Thanks. I am going to take your suggestion and practice ahead of time. We aren¡¯t going until August but our route is a popular one from OV to Horseshoe Meadows. Or Vice versa? Hi Andrew
I helped another friend get permits today.? Hitting "prev 5 days" and "next 5 days" works as I explained. If you hit it at exactly 7am, it keeps all the entries you made intact and refreshes just the table.
Good luck.??
I really wish Inyo?National Forest would switch to lotteries like Yosemite.??

The prev and next links (5 day), refresh the table without losing your input.? ? Sorry one more question: are permits available in five day blocks or one day at a time? I was under the impression it was one day at a time.? The reason I ask is because you mention using the previous five or next five day button. Is that so the day you want shows up right at 7 am? My name and emails are all saved in . You should setup?the account, credit card etc up front. You don't have to enter that.? You can choose permit type, date and group size a few minutes before 7am.??
Then, if you click prev 5 days and next 5 days, it should refresh the availability without losing your information. That is what I have seen in the past. This morning, that did not refresh, so I had to refresh the whole page and it lost the selections. I had to do "no-commercial", "overnight", "date" and group size at 7:00:30 am and it took about 10-15 seconds. When the page loaded, it showed 6 results.
I suggest you do a trial run a day or two before the days you want. Fill this, be ready at 7am, and try the prev page, next page a few times and see if it works.
When your day shows up, immediately select it and hit "book now" button, do not hesitate. The "book now" blocks those spots for you for up to 15 mins.
You then have 15 mins to enter the first campsite and pay.
Are you able to enter your information like name and number in your party before 7 am and then at 7 am pick your trailhead or does it all start at 7 am?
? OMG, what a crazy adrenaline rush. Just got permits for July 8th.? 0 available at 7am. I keep hitting "next week" and "previous week", but it does not refresh. I panic, hit the refresh?button in the browser, enter details, and suddenly only 6 permits are left. Grabbed the permits.
This is not for the faint of heart.? All 24 permits were gone within a minute. On Fri, 16 Dec 2022 at 10:43, Anand Kumar Sankaran via <anand.sankaran= [email protected]> wrote: Thanks Ravi and Paul.
You want Horseshoe Meadow trailhead over Cottonwood Pass. Cottonwood Lakes leads to New Army Pass. Some JMT hikers go? New Army but overwhelming majority go Cottonwood Pass.
Paul Fretheim East Side Sierra Shuttle? 760 878 8047?
Hi all
I am planning to hike from Horseshoe Meadows to Onion Valley next summer.
I see that there are two trailheads.

I thought I should use JM39, but when I look at the map of the trails:
My understanding is we have to cross Cottonwood Pass and head towards Chicken Spring Lake (Inga's book suggested that is a good place to stay for the first night).
The map indicates Cottonwood lakes trailhead does not cross the pass, but that is the one marked as JMT.? However, that is the trail with permit requirements and limits.
Which trailhead should I use?
Thank you.
