Free agency (JAG and DABB)

开云体育

Hey, Dev.?
??????As we approach another free agency period in JAG, I wondered if there was any possible tweak we could do to the process.
??????As has happened on a couple of occasions in both JAG and DABB, guys have over-extended contract-wise because of the process. You need a SP and put in max bids on 4 or 5 hoping to get one. Same with catchers or any other position. Then you find out you landed 3 or 4 max contract guys and that puts you over, forcing you to unload guys to get under the cap. Maybe even leaving you in violation of the constitution which says the minimum for rosters is 25 players.?
?????Would there be a way we might add another step to the process and allow us to "rescind" offers after the fact, which would allow us to get back under the cap easier? The player could then go to the next-best offer on the board. As it is usually 'max-offer' players that cause the problems, the player would still find a home with the next-best offer. Maybe the cost of a mid-round draft pick could serve as a penalty for rescinding an offer. Make it hurt a little bit but not as much as having to "dump" contracts through lop-sided trades.?
??????Just a thought.?

PS I know some of you are in both leagues and I apologize that you received?this twice.?

Playing devils advocate here. What is stopping owner from max bidding on every single player so he could get whoever he wants?

Just my 2 cents. Every manager know how many years he has at the beginning of FA bid process.?Keep as is but impose a tiered penalty system?Bidding more than that number they are ?aware of the penalty. ?If the team is over when the players are awarded to their new teams they forfeit a draft pick
1-2 years 5rd round ?pick
3-4 years 4th round pick
5-6 years 3rd round pick
7+. Years. 2nd round pick
Even if they manage to make trades to get down to the limit draft is forfeited.?

Thanks?
Brian

I like the 5-year limit in JAG. It requires more planning and strategy. The only thing that I would possibly change is that a team can lose 3 or 4 free agents just because teams have higher draft picks. I think that every round one should be equal and in the case of a tie at that level, just give up another pick. As it is now, if. you have the top pick, you can get any free agent you want. So if two teams bid 5 years and a 1st rounder, then they would have a chance to kick in another pick and if that is a tie give another.
Another thought is that if a team bids the max on one of their players and loses a tie, they get the forfeited draft pick.

With no penalties in place, there is nothing to stop an owner from max-bidding on every player, except the fact that you could be stuck with only a few players and have to make a bunch of lopsided trades to field a team. We have seen that play out from guys just bidding on a few too many players, which is why I wanted to start this discussion in the first place.?
I like the free agency aspect of these leagues but wanted to find a way to keep those situations from happening while still letting guys bid a bit.?
Easy to say you know how many contract years you have and you should stay within that, but that usually means only bidding on a few players and not getting anybody as other players also bid the same on those players. At least that has been my experience for the most part.?
Breaking the process up into groups might be a good way to help that situation. If we are not bidding on every FA pitcher, but only a third or a half of them at a time, it could thin out the bids a bit.??
