Re: Navigating chrome settings and using the Gmail interface

To be honest it couldn’t be more accessible if it tried.

?

So, I arrow down to one of the options. You mentioned, On Startup.

Press Enter.

JAWS should go into forms mode, which if you are using J-Say should be set to Manual operation.

When forms mode is active, press Tab once. That is common practice with a lot of modern apps.

The page should then refresh and you can look at the new screen. I’ve just tried about three of these.

?

Even better than that, if you then go back through the list of settings categories, JAWS tells you which one is active so you know.

This user won’t be using Outlook. As for Chrome settings, I’m having trouble with the logic of the settings screens, available from the alt+f menu. I used to do this smoothly, but either it has changed over the years or I have, more likely the latter. From the main menu, I try to choose a category, perhaps OnStartUp. I can’t find a consistent pattern of whether to use Space or Enter to choose menu items. When I choose one, sometimes forms mode comes on, sometimes it comes on and turns off immediately. If I do select a category on which to act, I can’t figure out reliably how to switch to another category. I’m obviously missing something here.

Hi Dean

?

In relation to the settings, are you talking about the Chrome browser, then ALT+F, then Settings?

If you know how to make use of the web with J-Say there are absolutely no difficulties with browsing those items or activating any one of them. I’ve just checked.

?

In terms of Gmail, no, there are no special J-Say commands.

I generally disregard most Dragon commands because if you use a Dragon command, you are not going to get appropriate speech output in most cases.

The reason there are no special commands is because noone has ever asked for them! If people really do want them there is no problem in adding them. But most people who use J-Say use Outlook.

Now, as the years move on that may well change but that is the case at the moment.

Does anyone know of any Dragon commands or even jaws navigation tips for navigating the chrome settings screens? In a similar vein, does anyone know any Dragon commands for working with the Gmail web interface?
