power/tone switch 60A225
The power/ tone control switch on my S-40B has failed.?
The Hallicrafters part number for power/tone switch is 60A225. That is
the same part number for the power/tone switch in the S-40, S-40A, S-40B, S-85, SX-99 and probably several other Hallicrafters sets using a similar tube lineup. ?I could bypass the switch with a jumper and turn the set on and off with a power strip. I could wire in mini toggle in parallel and hide it in the back still allowing the tone control to work. ?I could replace it with a switched audio pot but that just seems cheesy. Anyone robbed a switch from a pot and successfully grafted it or have a better solution? ?

Emil If the switch still sounds good and you hear a crisp snap when the switch closes then the problem might be corrosion around the rivets that connect the solder tab plates to the internal switch contacts.?? Easy to test, just ohm out the switch using the rivets, not the solder tabs.? With the switch closed, if the rivets ohm out as a short then just wire brush the rivets and use an active flux like Nokorode?and solder the rive tops to to the surrounding solder tab plates.?? I once had a Philco cathedral radio with this same problem where the dreaded previous owner had added a toggle switch to the side of the wood cabinet.? I did the above fix and removed the replacement switch then patched the hole in the cabinet with wood filler.? I used a scratch pen to match the color.? Hard to see the repair after the work was done. Jim Logic: Method used to arrive at the wrong conclusion, with confidence.? Murphy
