SR-46A on the Way
Reading the manual on the SR-46 I'm left with the impression that it needs a VFO signal of 25 - 27 MHz. All of the VFOs I've looked at (Utica, Lafayette) output an 8.XX MHz signal. The manual goes on to indicate that the VFO signal needs to be 3-4V PP which I think my DDS VFO can handles so I'll try it when the radio gets here.? UPS claims they will deliver it tomorrow!? If the DDS VFO can serve up an adequate signal I can modify the Arduino code to display the proper doubled frequency.
I think it would be interesting to try and get a QSO with you with HT-40 someday.? Right now I have it up on the shelf to make bench space for the SR-46 but maybe after I'm done with that... 73, -- Justin B. KI5GKD |

I played around with this radio a bit today and have a couple of questions.? I injected a 25.1 MHz signal into the VFO input and was able to get about about 6 watts on modulation peaks and I was able to "hear" myself on my NC-183 receiver so the transmitter is at least sorta working.? With my 20M Inverted Vee attached I hear no background "hiss" and the receiver sounds pretty much deaf.? I can hook my signal generator up directly to the antenna connector and tune in a weak signal on the SR-46 but with a direct connection it seems like it should be way louder.? I tested all of the tubes and a few were marginal but I don't think they should cause it to be deaf.
This was advertised as tested/working so I need to verify this lack of background noise doesn't sound right before I start dealing with the seller.? I know next to nothing about 6m so maybe a quiet background is normal, but I don't know. 73, -- Justin B. KI5GKD |
