Hi, and A Little Intro
Hi, folks. I've been blind and a Braille user all my life. I was looking for Grade 3 Braille resources, as I've learned and forgotten it many years ago. That is how I found this group. I have a small collection of hardcopy books, most of them with tactile maps and pictures. I have an NLS E-reader from my US library, and two Orbit displays. I appreciate finding this group. Take care, Teresa

"hello from an avid braille reader and writer
Hi, I'm Eden, and I'm totally blind and have been using braille all my life. I can use Ueb but still prefer grade 2 U.S. I have been studying some grade 3 and have the Nlwish i could obtain copy of s books. I would love to get really good at it. I wish they would create a back translator I could really fly. I already type approx 150 wpm in braille at least. I use a Qbraille and Braille Sense 6 but am thinking of obtaining a brailler. I had heard there were other advanced braille grades but couldn't find much about them. i'm listening to the Grade 3 series offered through someone at Acb. I really would like a copy of the Hadley book. They discontinued a lot of good courses. Eden

I want buy an used Braille Display
Hello friends. I am interested in buying a refurbished or used second-hand Braille Display cheap but in good condition. I would like to buy a VarioUltra or Hims Edge 40, but I am open-minded to hear about other devices. I have an Orbit Reader 20, but I want another Braille Display because the noise produced by the OR20 bothers me a little. I want a silent device. The seller must have availability to send the product to Brazil or the USA, I have an address in both countries, Brazil and the USA. I will pay all shipping costs. In addition, I would like to make the financial transaction through PayPal. Does anyone have a Braille Display in good physical condition to sell? I look forward to reading your proposals! Thank you.

An Observation. 6
Ok, So I have been wondering about something, and now, I have an idea about Braille. I am having a little trouble making my braille display when typing. I, so I searched the web specifically for tables like I have seen previously that show how to write braille symbols either in contracted UEB braille, or computer Braille. I didn't find these in applevis, and I haven't tried youtube yet. Is this something we should make videos on? What do you all think?

Focus 40 blue fifth generation
Hello, I normally would not post things like this, but I am potentially interested in trading my Brailliant Bi 32 for a Focus 40 blue fifth generation. The Brailliant is in good condition; all cells and buttons work as they should. Anyone interested in a trade? Kind Regards, Kelsey Nicolay

Hi, Thanks for this review of the orbit. What other alternatives are good with a Mac? *** “How many observe Christ's birthday! I know nothing about the orbit since the Canadian National Institute for the blind refunded my down payment due to the Orbit’s issues but I’d have loved to have one. Until the cost of such equipment drops significantly, going electronic would shut a lot of people out. Like so many people, I prefer Braille to Talking Books. A refreshable-Braille device allows you to carry a lot of material around with you. I have three Bible translations, a multi-volume hymnal, and countless books on my Braille Note. Refreshable-Braille devices would be a godsend for everyone, but the expense is phenomenal. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Dmitriy Sent: Friday, November 30, 2018 3:13 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Hale-Braille] What is Grade 1.5 Braille The original topic was about how to save money while producing braille. Also, constant change in formats causes agencies to get rid of old volumes and re-emboss new ones. I believe that going electronic is the best solution because there won't be any format wars as it were. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Virgil Cook Sent: Friday, November 30, 2018 2:40 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Hale-Braille] What is Grade 1.5 Braille Grade 1.5 was 20 volumes. At least 1.5 braille was not as bad is jumbo braille that is very confusing to read because the dots are to spaced apart it's hard to know what dots go with what letter. Second, Grade 1.5 was an intermediate level for learning the contractions. Perhaps the best step is to list contractions that Grade 1.5 added to the list. 1. Single-word contractions represented by Dot 5 and dots 4, 5, and 6 preceding a letter were new in Grade 2. 2. Contractions for "to," "into," and "by" were new along with joining these contractions to the following word. 3. Also joining the contractions for "and," "for," of," "the," and "with" to one another was new. Contractions for letter combinations such as "ment" and "ness" were new. Was this two-step teaching tool effective? It's hard to say. I do suspect, however, that learning grade 1 first helped my spelling later on. Hope this helps. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Dmitriy Sent: Thursday, November 29, 2018 12:05 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [Hale-Braille] What is Grade 1.5 Braille I've only heard about this one. What is Grade 3 Braille? You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have. FRLY is friendly; how fun is that. I'd add YD for yesterday, as it is in the grade 3 code. And one word i use a lot is probably. If I had a penny for every time my students spell "probably" incorrectly, I could retire to the French Riviera. Grade three has dots 4-6 y for "bly" maybe it is. I would definitely like p 46 y for probably. I have several reading devices; and I sure would love to be able to look at an APH Orbit. But all in good time. Changing Spending Patterns on Braille Production 14
Dear Members, Recently I was reading the report that was written about the Nls Braille Summit that was held on the campus of the Perkins School For The Blind in Watertown, Massachusetts. One of the recommendations that was made during this meeting was that spending patterns need to change due to the role that technology has played in the production of braille materials. How can companies that produce braille documents change their spending patterns? Hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely, Roanna Bacchus
