Sticky Howdy hey!

Let's get this party started!!!!?

We have a few people here! YAY! Go us!?

Please take a moment and introduce yourself, who is your entry Tolkien character, your favorite Tolkien character and anything you want to say about yourself!?

Hi! I'm Zee. I'm a teacher down in the South and I write fanfiction. Not as prolific as I used to be but I still write. My gateway Elf was Haldir and my favorites are Haldir, Gamling, Eomer and Thorin. I have 5 pushy muses that'll I'm sure will come out when they wish. As I said, I write in the LOTR fandom, as well as The Hobbit, Doom (movie) Harry Potter, Into the Storm and Robin Hood. I have a cross over - LOTR/HP called Tel' Lindar that many think I abandoned years ago, but I've dusted it off and am working on it again!?

I'm going to go int the files, the subgroups, I guess and set up folders. Also need to figure out where we can put graphics and art! I have plenty of that.?

IN current and past times, I saved quite a bit of fanfic and art so I could read off line and I"ll probably put it up here or at the Proboard group. If I've put up yours and you'd rather I hadn't, let me know privately and we'll fix it.?

I'm looking forward to getting both boards set up and seeing what others have to offer! I miss the hey day and I know we won't return to that, but I've made a lot of friends over the years and hope we can still get together and enjoy!?

I'm going next!??

My name is Tammy.? I'm list owner, along with Zee and Christen.? I have been a list mom for many years at the old Haldir Lovers Yahoo site.??

I write fanfiction, and would love to try my hand at an original work one day, if I can get my mojo flowing again.? I've written in a few fandoms, but LOTR has been my usual haunt.? Perhaps you know me best from my story, Nienna.? I've tinkered and reworked this and that, know the tale like the back of my hand.? It's just getting the fine details in line at this point.? If you've been following her, you know that I've suffered a writer's block for the last few years.? I promise I am going to finish Nienna.? She is so special to my heart and she needs her story told, lol.? I've also tinkered with...dating myself here...a story in the Ever After fandom.? Gotta love Prince Henry and Danielle de Barbarac.? For a while, True Blood was on my radar.? Eric Northman so needs a story all of his own.? I also keep running a fic over in my head involving Jamie and Claire Fraser, but I know it's a huge no-no as Diana Gabaldon really frowns on fanfic.??

As for me personally, I work in human resources in a jail setting.? Now that can be very interesting sometimes, lol.? I look very forward to connecting and reconnecting with everyone here, at our new home.??

~Tammy

?Am I actually an owner now? I thought I was just a moderator, lol. I'm also lost in my own imagination 90% of the time though, so who knows, lol.

Christen, I think being lost in your imagination most all the time is the earmark of a writer.? I suffer the same affliction!? lol.

Finally getting a chance to respond. Been reading everyone's posts. Kristen here. My entry Tolkien character? Probably Glorfindel. When I first read the books in high school that character just jumped out to me first. I was disappointed his role in the movies was taken over by Arwen.

I am also a teach - CTE (career and tech ed). I teach a variety of courses from electronics and robotics, to animal science and horticulture. I even had to teach Foods 1 one semester! I just put in for retirement (thank you administration for getting so wishy-washy I cannot deal with it anymore). This school year has been the worst year teaching in my entire career. (and admin is really contributing to that). we have gone from remote, to hybrid, to what I am calling remotely-hybrid. we are supposed to be teaching remotely, but they are bringing in students whenever the kids want to come in. I get the students with special needs, but I was getting a potluck of odd students coming in and trying to keep them in line while teaching online was just insane.?

I got started writing fanfic through RPG's online. I miss those Yahoo RPG groups. I did several LOTR and POTC. From there I started branching out to writing my own fanfic. I started on a LOTR one, but a person who offered to beta my work really tore it to pieces so I pretty much dropped writing fanfics for quite some time. I moved to POTC for quite some time as I was involved in one Yahoo group that did weekly prompts for one-shots. I enjoyed those and began posting them online getting some decent reviews. So I started writing longer fics, but again stuck to my POTC fandom.? Most of the LOTR RPG groups never seemed to click so I was more focused on my Captain Jack. lol Since then I have added Marvel (Loki mostly) fanfic. I started one Loki fanfic (still working on it) after an assignment from one of my grad classes. I was supposed to pick something modern that kids would relate to and address diversity. So I asked my kids - "what movie should I see". They picked Thor: The Dark World. Went to see it (again- had already seen it), but watching it from the perspective of diversity opened up several interesting aspects. Got an A on my paper, but I had picked up several issues in the plot I disliked, so started a Loki fic. Planned it to about 18-20 chapters. ... several years later (and six complete stories later) I am still working on it. I do need to dust it off one of these days and finish it. After the Hobbit came out, I started writing some LOTR fanfic with a friend. We've been writing and posting it as we have time. One day, after a phone conversation with my friend where we talked about "what if Loki and Thranduil met"... i started this insane crossover. I write it for pure fun, and have had one reader challenge me to hit 100 chapters (I'm in the 50's right now).

?Hello fellow Kristen, (mine is spelled with a "Ch"). Glad to have you here with us.

LotR fanfiction is where I got my start in writing. I've since started writing and publishing original works. I have a completed fantasy trilogy out now, and I'm currently doing edits on a prequel before it goes to the editor.

One of the other list moms here is a teacher too. I have all respect in the world for teachers. This year has been insane and it's hit your profession hard! I couldn't do it.

Anyway, welcome to our little corner of the internet. Grab an Elf and make yourself comfortable.

Please feel free to load your LOTR ff into our files! I"m in the process of doing that as well and I've pulled out an old old WIP from the dust cupboard and determined to finish it this coming year! (Tel' Lindar)?

Welcome Kristen!! ?

We are please to have you here, and everyone who has joined our little slice of heaven. ?I'm Tammy, one of three owners of this group. ?

As I entered my forties, it suddenly occurred to me that I should've gone into teaching because I love English and writing...all that good stuff. ?I got sidelined into the field of law and became a paralegal. ?Fortunately, I got to showcase my writing skills in that field, too. ?;-) ?Now, I am working as a human resources director in the correctional setting. ?Now, that's an interesting place to be...if you're on the right side of the "bars", so to speak, lol. ?But honestly, after some capers employees can pull, there are days I'd rather work with offenders. ?

Please do upload your LotR fic(s) into our files. ?We need to start rebuilding our library for all to enjoy. ?I've been tinkering with mine for so long, I'm sure everyone has forgotten about it. ?I have the best intentions of finishing it, but as we all know, especially after this sucky year, life gets in the way sometimes. ?

Tammy

Hey, you know how long I've been working on Tel' Lindar. I pulled it out during quarantine and was disgusted on how close to the end I am. Soooo....?

poking my head out of lurkdom....

Hello there.

I never mentioned this, but my first introduction to LOTR was the cartoon made in the early 80s of the Hobbit.? I didn't watch FoTR in the theaters, but I did get the extended edition and watched it at home.? Of course my favorite became Haldir (I'm a sucker for most minor characters).

I wrote my first fanfic when I was all of twelve.? I had my two favorite cartoons (not the Hobbit) and thought what would happen if they met?? I know!? I'll write it!? I didn't write anymore until about twenty years ago (was 2000 that long ago?) in another fandom, and then of course LoTR.? Or beloved Vi (whom I still dearly miss) beta'ed my first story.

It was a blood bath.

But, Vi kept on working on my stuff.? I asked her later on "why".? She mentioned that she saw potential in my work.? Some time ago I found my original story and read through it.? Yes it reads like a 12-year-old wrote it, but I can now see what Vi had told me.

Shortly before we lost her I made the jump over to original fiction.? She actually helped me because what I was working on came out of a fanfic.? I had to change too many things to make it work, so I took a deep breath and cut ties.? It was the most freeing thing I ever did.? She knew where it came from and I kept asking her if she could see the original character in my story.? When she said "no" I knew I was on my way.? Plus the character was a minister.? With her being a PK she kept telling me "oh, that's what Papa would do!"? I told her that I wasn't trying to channel her father and she understood.? So I got the mindset of a minister correct.? :)

My other story is also historical.? That's what I published first.? I also dedicated it to Vi's memory.? I've two more I'm working on, but they're not fantasy.? My fanfic (which are now all Star Wars -- not the new stuff except for Mando!) is sci-fi, while my originals are in the historical setting.? Right now I'm writing a novelized account of the Great Siege of Malta (and it's not WWII).? Writing a war story is the hardest thing I've ever done, and it takes a certain mindset to do it.?? If anyone wants to alpha/beta read it, let me know.

I'm also thinking of looking over my LoTR story and uploading it here, but it is a hard R.? Not sure if groups dot io will take too kindly to that.

I shall try to upload my fics. Not sure how much time I will have as the holidays are insane. So much to do, so little time.

Noooo we have not forgot about Nienna..lovely story. I would love to see it completed!?

Hi all!

I'm Becky. ..many of you know me as Captn Becky or simply The Captn.

I got my first taste of fanfiction courtesy of LOTR. The first time I saw LOTR I fell in love with Haldir. I think it was because he was a minor character. One of the few that was named in the movie that was not a prince or queen. I found myself wanting to learn more ...I discovered something wonderous.....FANFICTION! !. I started reading as much as I could find. I came across a beautiful story..Amarie? abd Haldir by Julie...I loved it so much I emailed the author. ..never did that before.. She answered me and invited me to join HaldurLovers.? It was the beginning of my lovely adventures in fanfiction and meeting the many wonderful people of HaldirLovers. It has been my privilege and joy to know all the people of HaldirLovers.? I am so happy to see some here.?

I work in the medical field. I agree this year has been crazy. I have had the privilege of working with a number of Covid people. It is my hope and prayer we can find some light at the end of the tunnel to this nightmare. My hope for all of you is to be safe.

I was struck with the wonderful world of fanfiction thanks to LOTR and enjoyed reading so many of your stories. I tried my hand at dabbling in my own little story. I would never had posted if not for the encouragement of a fellow HL member Dorothy. I am forever grateful? for all her kind guidence.

One day she mentioned being weary of her work and saw an ad for a beer taster. That started a thread of what we'd do if we could do our dream jobs. I piped up I'd like to be the captain of a sailing ship and do harbor cruises for people. The next day the Loren Follies was born. Before the thread was over I had all kinds of people volunteering to be crew. A few months ago there were do many I had assigned positions to that I had to make myself a list. A few months ago I was going through my papers and found that list. I saw so many names of folks that I had not seen in a while and a number that u still see. We've "sailed" the Lorien Follies many times. I've always enjoyed the sails. That is how i got to be known as Captn Becky.?

I have enjoyed our elving expeditions and round robins.

But mostly I enjoy getting to know all the people and all the stories on HL. As I don't have..and am afraid of Facebook and other mainstream social platforms...I lost track of most.

I hope we can keep in touch in some small way here.

Take care to all ...hello and welcome.

Capt Becky

My hats off to all you teachers! It has been a horrific year for schools...chaos...I have many friends who teach and hear about their struggles with remote, hybrid and mixed class situations. Seems they are always in flux

?So glad you're here, Becky!? The place just isn't the same without our intrepid captain!
