Yes, it's so easy to forget that there is a GFI.? I had the same thing happen with mine. Apparently, the GFI may trip when the unit is first plugged in or immediately when the power switch is turned

I have had two failures of the on/off switch. It is not switching the mains voltage, but the the dc control line (similar to: standby/ON).? Unfortunately, disassembly is required to get to it.

normally I now just do the output caps as well as the one small cap in the high voltage area ( 47uf 63V IIRC )? Opinions vary of course but when you have done as many as I have you start adjusting to
