Re: Looking for spectrum analyzer boards for the HP 8920A
U502 on the RX module and U2 on the spectrum module have not been a problem. I might not hurt to replace them but I would lean towards leaving them alone. rick

Re: Looking for spectrum analyzer boards for the HP 8920A
@Greg: Thanks for the update on your successful repair of your RX module by replacing the U4 amp. ? @Rick: Would it be good to also replace the U502 amp on the RX module as well? How about the

8935 Restarts Randomly
Evening everyone. I have 2 of these units that exhibit the same behavior. They randomly restart for no reason occasionally. I have not been able to establish a pattern regarding the issue. All self

Re: Squelch Fixed High Level, SOHL
Alright, problem solved! Actually in a slightly odd way... ? I moved all easily swapped modules from my working unit into this unit with the Squelch diag error. Still same problem in RF_Diags

Re: Looking for spectrum analyzer boards for the HP 8920A
I have a 8920A that had SA readings that were approximately 13db low and failed RF Diag tests for SA vertical sensitivity (low) and all three receiver down converter tests (low). I followed Rick's

Re: Squelch Fixed High Level, SOHL
CrazyFin, ? Another idea: Try swapping the output module from 1 unit to the other. (remember to keep track of which unit they came from because of the cal data). This is easier than swapping the

Re: Squelch Fixed High Level, SOHL
CrazyFin,? If your receiver module passes in 1 unit but fails in the other, the problem is likely, not the receiver module. It's another module or possibly calibration data. The 08920-61102 receiver

Re: Looking for spectrum analyzer boards for the HP 8920A
Regarding the squelch fixed high level error, to make a long story short, it's an indication that the receiver signal level is low. I would suspect the antenna input diodes in the input module. I've

Re: Squelch Fixed High Level, SOHL
I did run the MISC DIAGS on for the input section and it passes the test without any fails. Looking at the test paths for the Squelch test (that fails on the two high level test only) and compare it

Re: Squelch Fixed High Level, SOHL
I have seen this failure a few times where it was not the RX module as well. It's been awhile but IIRC it actually may have been an issue on the generate output level and may have been a blown port on

Re: Squelch Fixed High Level, SOHL
Hi Rick Thanks for pointing me into that direction. Will check Q512 on the RX modules 08920-61102 that I have. I am a little bit confused though since the failing RX modules in the "non-working unit"

Re: Squelch Fixed High Level, SOHL
Regarding HP 8920A problems where the diagnostics report "Squelch Fixed High Level and Squelch Open High Level" fail, this was because of a failure of Q512 in the receiver module. This failure mainly

Re: Looking for spectrum analyzer boards for the HP 8920A
Alright, I have now received 2 other receiver modules (08920-61102) and when I use them in my first and working unit they both pass all tests including the dreaded receiver and spectrum analyzer

Hi Rick, Note that it is the MAR- *7* SM that is the correct replacement, not the MAR2SM. https://www.minicircuits.com/pdfs/MAR-7SM+.pdf
