Re: Firmware update for 8935 E6380A

It would be nice to have a backup of the present system. I ran into the same problem with another Agilent unit. E7495
I had to alter the code on the update card and re install the update. It made me nervous.
But it worked OK.
I do not know how to get a backup off these units. Maybe someone else does.

Re: E8285a with attenuator

On my HP 8935 there is an INST CONFIG button that lets you adjust for attenuator, among other things.

E8285a with attenuator

Hi guys,
I have a? e8285a communication service monitor..
I'm going to be using it primarily for HF work ham radios and things like that.
I have a bird attenuator to connect to it since the e8285a we're only take a two and a half watt input.
I have a 300 watt 40 DB attenuator., Bird model?bird luc-002-e,...
How do I tell the e8285a that I have this connected to it?

Thanks for your help

I might call Keysight to see if they have any suggestions.

Re: Added Folder /Adapting a VGA LCD to the E8285A Service Monitor #file-notice

Storage costs money and power. Downloading takes bandwidth. Not everyone has broadband, even in the 1st world.
I also think you are confusing? compression with resolution. The older poor quality manuals on the web etc. are normally due to low resolution scanning or/and copying from poor quality microfilm / microfiche (HPAK bad for the latter).
Modern compression? of monochrome documents and line diagrams is virtually lossless.?
Just cropping your image 1 to remove unneeded parts of your bench saved over 1.5MB. Quite severe compression and reduction in resolution resulted in a 100:1 reduction in size to 45kB with no significant loss of image quality (the original is not that sharp). It's certainly good enough as an image of the panel. Just compressing to a medium amount reduced the cropped file to 300kB with no loss of quality even when zoomed right in to the detail of the 3 pin connector.
I've uploaded a copy of the reduced and compressed image to the folder.

Re: Added Folder /Adapting a VGA LCD to the E8285A Service Monitor #file-notice

We live in the 21st century. There is no need to apply so much compression on photos so it looses most of its (fine) detail. I have lots and lots of trouble having to rescan manuals because people applied too much compression on the past. 4.5MB is very reasonable for a photo where people needs to see some detail.

Thanks for the photos. They do seem a bit large at 4.5MB each. Most editors will let you chose the resolution, compression (quality) and image size for smaller files.

I've noticed 4:3 LCDs are becoming less common and more expensive!

Matt,

I came across this firmware revision release note. Interestingly they expanded the spectrum analyzer out to 1.4GHz with release A2.01.
What version do you have?

Craig.

They are mostly the same. The difference is the dual VGA ouput AFAIK.

I just noticed that you are using a 8220 board and not the 8200 board that I am using.? Not sure how that would effect the wiring and such.

I don't know anything about the 8220 other than just looking at the two they look similar except for the extra parts for a dual VGA output.
