ESG3000A (E4421A) signal generator - datasheet for 1GG3 series amplifiers
Hello everyone.
My ESG 3000A became faulty (unlevel indicated) some 20 (!) years ago but I finally now have time to repair it. Relatively fixed frequency output noise (broadband peaks at circa 200 MHz and 700 MHz) was associated with one of the 1GG3 4205 (SOP-8 packaged) amplifers in the output module. Removing the amplifer fixed that problem but, and with no surprise with an amplifier removed, the output level remains out of specification. Does anyone have access to, or can point me in the direction of, a datasheet for 1GG3 4205? Ideally, I'd have data for all the 1GG-series devices (1GG3-4206 output amp and 1GG7-4225 modulator). I've seached but can find no information. Thanks. |
开云体育Is this one of the amps just before and after the modulator?? Also, this video is very helpful. Tom Bryan On 11/2/2021 5:52 AM, GK321 wrote:

I was trying to repair an HP/Agilent E5071B (VNA) a while back and ran into a similar situation... failed HP MMIC with a similar part number.
Had no luck finding any info. Called Keysight and they told me the part was not for sale to the public, they could not provide a datasheet, and they could not even tell me what the part was! (all info classified) I knew it was an amp so I picked up a few from Mini-Circuits, based on my best guess as to specs. From there, managed to get close to the desired output and found an HP VEE test program used for calibration. I ran that a couple of times and WHOA.... FIXED IT! Has been working great for a couple of years now. Pretty lucky! Good luck!! Mark KJ7CYN |
Thanks Mark.
That explains the absence of data! The video link provided by Tom earlier in this thread has pointed me in the direction of likely suitable replacements, so looks like a Mouser order will be winging its way soon. I'll also follow up on the HP VEE. If nothing else it'll be fun (and educational) trying to fix the unit! |
开云体育I thought the video explained things very well.? From what I can
see, the amplifiers provide fixed gain and adjustments are made
after the amplifiers.? The video shows the "B" model, but the
circuit is functionally the same as the "A" model that you have.?
All of the ESG modules are designed to go to 4 GHz regardless of
the model.? You should put in an amp that goes to at least 4 GHz.

开云体育Here is a partial schematic showing how the 1GG3-4205 is
connected.? I noticed that it uses +9V and -5.3V supplies.? I
assume that a modern replacement part would not need the -5.3V.? Note: inductors values are shown but the schematic symbol is not
there (e.g., L21). Why?

开云体育HI Milan, The CLIP is very useful.? It is nice that it includes all of the
options too.? Thank you for making that available at a reasonable
price. ?I guess the inductors were a bit lighter than the rest of the symbols but it is strange to see them missing. Tom
