HP 182T display/8559A SA - display only visible with beam find.
Hi,
I'm trying to troubleshoot an HP 182T display with an 8559A SA plugin that does not produce a normal display. When I put the plugin in for the first time it worked just fine. After about 15 mins the display slowly faded to blank and now the only way I can see the SA output is using the Beam Find button. I've attached a picture below of what I see. Is this is a vertical deflection problem? - the SA display looks complete - in the sense that it has both width and height in the Beam Find display (albeit shrunk by the beamfind)? - but it is not located on the screen under normal operation. Any pointers about where to look would be very welcome. thanks Tony |
No - I have not been able to work out what is going on at all. I have two units affected in the?same way. Its pretty frustrating! Well at least the problem is big and bold. When just beam fid works it will be any of the following. Blanking Z is cutoff for some reason. X or Y or both are totally unbalanced. Typically some sort of supply failure if you find the delection all the way to one side. But if just x or y then most likely a transistor in that deflection circuit. Generally reasonable to find. Good luck Paul WB8TSL |
FWIW, I've repaired a good number of 182C and 182T in a distant past

and often there was a carbon composition resistor (100 ohms) going open in the cathode drive circuit. Frank On Thu, Feb 17, 2022 at 3:07 PM paulswed <paulswedb@...> wrote:
