Re: 8350A RPG 5060-9444 questions
Thank you Yves
Precious feedback yours. The detail of the 45 degree piece of metal is interesting; in both of mine it was missing. Wonder if it is a peculiarity of 8350A or maybe someone else was in there before me and forgot? it.? From your foto now I understand how the lamp is kept in place

Re: 8131A Error F500
Well after 6 months on sale on various platforms with no interest. I've now picked up another 8131a, dual output this time hoping to at least make one good one out the two.
?
Powered it on annnnd..... E304 error, exactly the same as the one I already have.?
?
So now I have two doorstops. No wonder nobody wants them.? |
8563EC LCD problem
I was given one of these spectrum analysers presumably because the owner didn't think it could or was worth getting fixed. After fixing the power supply, which was a fault caused by two small electrolytics developing a high ESR, the unit powered on and all voltages were as specified.
?
But now I am confronted by a LCD display problem that I can't find a way to progress. Hopefully someone has seen a similar issue and can point me to a solution. Connecting external VGA monitors did not produce any type of display. The best I got was a monitor saying the mode was unsupported.
?
Trying to pull the 8563EC apart to access the LCD itself has proved difficult. I suspect some thread lock glue has been used.

Re: Artek Manuals and HP 3325B
Were you able to get the schematic you need for the HP 3325B repair? I
have the paper copy if you need a few pages scanned or something while you wait for the artek copy. On Mon, Sep 16, 2024 at 11:11?AM Tim Wright via groups.io <al7ds@...> wrote:

Re: HP 3310A Repair Advice
Hi Antonio,
?
Thank you for the thought.? I did see a mention of this in an old posting here from around 2016 IIRC.? I did check all of the PCB connections around the previous repair to the board in case someone was sloppy but I could not find any issues.
?
I'm sure there is a clue from the behavior of the unit presently -- specifically how the triangle generator ramps up but then edges down when it (A1TP4) hits +6.5V (should be +5V).? And how the bottom of the waveform varies in voltage depending on the frequency dial setting (current source/sink setting).
?
If you're curious, I've uploaded waveforms from various test points over on eevblog where I've another thread on the unit: ?

Re: HP8563E strange behavior
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI had a similar issue but with a different peace of HP equipment. I have left a link to a YouTube video that shows the behavior. In my case it was a ground line issue. I had a power monitor that was doing some power line networking and causing some very strange issues with a low frequency Spec an. Especially if it is moving around the noise is not staying still this could be a grounding issue with the building wiring. ? It was also causing some issues with an AA501A distortion analyzer and some of my other sensitive equipment. ? Video Link: ? ? Zen ? Re: HP 5343A SMA ¡°Insert¡±
I will take a look tonight when I get home, both at the manual and at the counter itself.? Mine has a male 3.5 mm connector on the 500 MHz to 26.5 GHz side.? I haven't looked inside for a couple years.? It wasn't working when I got it, but one of my friends helped me swap out cards until we found which one was bad.? We didn't look at the input section.? Good luck!? ? ? ?Jim

Re: OT: a tale of two chargers.
Never trust a geek, unless you have live chickens to behead! Tell these morons that the supplies are regulated voltage, not current. Then find a Nwrd who understands Electronics. It seems like all those ormer Radi Shack sales drones went to work as Geeks. You have questions? We gon't know the answers! The last time I was at a BB, the 'clerk' informed me that Windows 95 was the first version. I sighed and told him it started with V 1.0, and was just a menu system. He wasn't able to search google properly and isitd I was talking about V 10. I' highly alergic to stupid, so I never went back. Tere was a two way radio shop in Taveres, Florida. The owner had a 386 based computer o program business radios. BB had 'fixed it' It stil didn't work rightt, so I opened it up. They had installed hree IDE controllers, and adn't disabled the onboard port so it was very slow and corupted the software. I pulled the extra cards, and replaced the 40 pin cable? wich was the original problem. They shouldn't be allowed near any computer, except their own. IOIf there are typos, I cant see the screen well enough to find them. Re: 8350A RPG 5060-9444 questions
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý? Here is the detail of a repair done in 2022, of an RPG in my 8350B. Maybe it can be useful to you. ? Yves ------------------ ? Hi, just a story about HP/Agilent 5060-9444 5 VDC Rotary Pulse Generator RPG +, replace LAMP by LED. ? ? I had the opportunity to get an 8350B with an 83595A (0.01-26.5GHz). This device had to be stored for a few years. In short, I had to partially disassemble it to remove dust and some traces of corrosion. I changed the battery of course and fixed several problems like the front panel which was partially working. I had to do a complete alignment, now everything is OK. The 83595A seemed to be in better shape, but the RPG was not working. I removed it from the module and opened it up...after examining the circuit, it was easy to see that the lamp was burned out. I studied the module and how it worked, so I tried a repair by replacing the lamp with an LED. ? I found that this little module was quite ingenious. All the parts are on the top of the PCB and underneath 2 photo detectors in a dark room, where there are two plastic sheets in the shape of a circle, a hole followed by another one on top translucent. A small metal piece bent at 45 degrees, serves as a support for the lamp but also as a reflector to direct the light through two tunnels to the photo detectors. The two tunnels have screws allowing them to partially obstruct the light, allowing the two circuits to be balanced. If the light intensity is sufficient, this will trigger the gate 7413 (Schmitt Trigger). When the light levels are balanced by the screws, the duration of the pulses, for a constant speed, should be approximately the same. ? Using an LED recovered from a defective LED bulb, which was the perfect size to fit and fill the rectangular area where the bulb was located, I was able to determine the LED current for minimum operation of the RPG. The currents were 7mA for one side, and 11 mA for the other. I tested up to 30 mA for proper operation. I reduced it to 20mA, found the resistance needed for this current in the LED at 5V. The LED dropped 2.721V. I balanced the circuit with the screws and closed everything. Now the RPG of my 83595A works correctly. I will just have to make the necessary alignments for optimal operation. ? ? -Yves ? ? De?: [email protected] <[email protected]> De la part de bumbo.chinelo@... ? Hello ? After fixing the power supply and multiple Bob West springs (how I hate them) all I have to do (haha optimism) is getting two RPGs to work. Both had the lamp burnt out, but after long searches on Taobao I managed to find almost identical ones; however nothing comes out of the 7413. I removed both transistors and they don't seem too bad; havn't tested yet the 7413 ? Here are some questions for the experts ? 1) the two torx next to the lamp regulate amount light that reaches the photo diodes? I've tried to adjust them but the amplitudes are quite different (see attached photo) ? 2) the two transistors are marked 4-071M 041 (M is Motorola logo) . Can 2N2222 be a replacement since they don't appear in any list of HP components ? 3) What could be a replacement for the photo diodes? ? Thank in advance for any suggestions ? ? ? ? |
Re: HP 5343A SMA ¡°Insert¡±
After a considerable search the only possible item I came up with in regards to a SMA item involves a relatively undocumented Option 006 for the 5343A which involves a input protection limiter for the 26.5 GHz input (affords protection to +39 dBm). Given virtually no room to install this option it is unclear how it would fit between the N connector and the input to the sampler assembly U1. I suspect that there has to be a significant change to the mounting of the sampler to move it farther back on the side rail to open a gap for the protector.
I¡¯ve never seen a 5343A with this option. The same Option 006 can be used on the 5342A counter but cannot be used if Option 005 (frequency extension to 24 GHz) is installed. Greg |
