Re: HP 3478A general questions
John, awesome idea. So just build the higher resistance side of the divider with resistors that were all measured from the same range that the low side will be on. That's a great idea. The sum of that

Re: neat color for an 8566!
Aha! The proper colour for test equipment (says he, ducking, weaving and running for cover). D.

Re: HP 3478A general questions
Jeff, You can still make the idea work by using multiple resistors of the same value. You can make a 10:1 divider by using, say, 10 each 10K resistors; all can be checked on the same resistance scale.

Triangle Wave Flatness HP 8116A
All - I am trying to calibrate one of these generators and I can't seem to make it past step 29 in the calibration procedure. The procedure reads: Flatness 23. Set the HP 8116A frequency to 2.99 MHz.

Re: HP 3478A general questions
Found the hole in my own idea so I thought I would post it just in case someone attempts it. The problem is the "uncalibrated" meter is going to have different amounts of error in different resistance

Re: neat color for an 8566!
Oh boy ... that's our tax money at work. This was a special handling request by a not-to-be-named military contractor to make all the equipment look the same as something else they were building.

Check out the color. http://www.ebay.com/itm/321041981753 not mine, no connection, action figures sold separately. 73 Eugene W2HX

Re: HP 3478A general questions
Thanks Joe, some good options by the sounds of it. I'm eyeballing the 3456A's now, they appear to be fairly accurate and in a good price range. In the end I'm more interested in the resolution then

Re: 3561A repair
Finally got the parts from Mouser today. I repaired the A71 board by replacing R203, CR100, C2 & C100. I also replaced the lithium battery on the user memory board and everything seems to be working.

Jeff, Agilent still does CAL on the 3478A for $204.22 per their website. I have dealt with Agilent on a number of instruments I have sent in for calibration and highly recommend their services. It

Extending rear scope ports on HP16500C. Was: Is scope in a HP 1660CS logic analyzer a good scope?
Since we're talking bout HP DSOs, a question: My HP 16500C has a nice 100MHz scope card, but the inputs are on back. Is there a safe and cheap way of extending this ports to front? I thought of using

Re: HP 3478A general questions
Don, I am not at all familiar with the HP 745A other than looking at one listed on theBay. I got involved in calibrating my 3478A on the AC scales and used an HP 3458A calibrated by Agilent as a

Re: Is scope in a HP 1660CS logic analyzer a good scope?
Hi Pete, I use a 1661CS as my main scope - it was the cheapest way to get a high sample rate dso plus it came with a logic analyser. From research I think it is the same innards as the 54510A with

Re: HP 3478A general questions
Just some food for thought and criticism. Let's say all you can get is a 2.5 or 5.0 volt precision reference. You could in theory use the high resolution of your 5 1/2 or 6 1/2 + digit meter to trim

Hello to the group, I picked up an ebay special, does not power up but fan comes on. Ok, that one almost came with an easy button. The 5 volt regulator transistor was lose in its socket (TO-3). Fixed

Does anyone have some HPIB cables that need a good home? Not looking for free, but asking here before I go to the bay. Just good ones to start trying out the HPIB options available to me. Maybe couple
