One more comment regarding maximum cable length. If you have option 010 (time domain), there is a limit to the time interval you can display, but I think that's tied to the math for the transform.

The 8557/58/59 used the same kind of disks you could possibly find a parts mule on ebay though there is no guarantee that its not going to suffer from the same disease as this was a common problem.
