Re: External display for Hp 4145a

The 4145A/B uses the well known 1345A display module.? You can find this in innumerable other instruments.

E4407B analyser

Hi,
I have a problem with this instrument.
In analyser mode, when I will activate Zoom function, it freeze during two long minutes and then it works.
When I push Next Window, again 2 long minutes hanging out.
Any idea or diagnostic to run?
What results about clearing RAM or Flash as describe in service manual?
best regards.

Re: E4406A firmware update Win7/10 problem

Neil, probably the ¡°ancient¡± XP virtual machine would be ideal. If you could also do a full Wireshark capture while doing the update, it might be possible to reverse-engineer the protocol and write a modern replacement. I doubt that they did anything very fancy. It might be a good old TFTP transfer for all I know.

When I try to use the Agilent firmware updater (from the website) for my E4406A, I get warnings about the ancient MS JVM it tries to run. If I mess with the path, I can get it to run, but although the updater runs and netstat shows has a listening port on 0.0.0.0 UDP for BOOTP, it doesn't respond to the BOOTP request from the 4406 during the upgrade. If I run a different bootp agent in place of the updater, it issues a good IP to the 4406. This is the same on a Win7 and two Win10 platforms. (Firewalls and AV disabled in all cases)

All three can read the current cal and config files before I reboot into the bios. After a SEA (02), I see option 0 is the LAN card, so I pick that (03), and then select no interactive (down arrow), and the 4406 asks the LAN for the IP but never gets it.

On the LAN, I have a router, but very oddly, if I remove it and just run a bare Cisco switch with the 4406 and a PC, the 4406 doesn't detect the LAN interface at all. No sign of any obvious broadcast traffic or discovery packets, but I've not (yet) done a port monitor and captured all the L2 traffic on Wireshark. Pings, ftp and telnet all work fine with the 4406 running normally.

If I try to run the updater using the latest javaw.exe (update 181) or java.exe, it throws the usual errors about not being able to find the main class in the .jar

Is there a workaround I can use? Maybe unzip the .jar and put the classes into a folder and tell java to search there? Maybe run an ancient XP VM, or run the thing in Linux? Or can I use PXEboot or tftp with separate bootp, or some other way to get this thing updated? Any hints would be very much appreciated (other than time travel).

Current firmware is from 2000, the one I am trying to use is from 2007. Oh, and of course, the 4406 backlights are totally dead, so I have to use a LED torch to try to read the display.

Thanks Dick, I think I do some cherry picking on your matlab effort. Actually did a lot matlab work during the last two decades of my working life.

HP 8935 E6380A wont power up

Hi all,

My trusty E6380A failed to proceed this morning and preliminary investigations as to the cause prove zip.

Do these things have a common fault I could go look for ?

Any pointers to what might be the cause ?

Any path to resolution gratefully appreciated.

Service manuals don't have schematics so that's not helpful.

thanks

Re: Power Supply PCB Microfuses for H/P 8656A

Hi Don -?

I gather from your call sign that you're in New Zealand.? I'm not sure if Digi Key will be much use (seems to me guys on the eevblog from Aus and NZ mention using them, so maybe...), but they carry what I think are the correct fuses, and have stock.

I downloaded the PDF manual from Keysight and they appear to be Littelfuse Micro 273 series fuses - the manual lists them as mfg p/n 273001, 004 and 005 which I believe correspond to Littelfuse part numbers 0273001.H, etc. (I suspect that you already know this, but just in case...); DK part numbers for these are F868-ND, F872-ND and F873-ND respectively for the 1, 4 and 5A devices.? They're $5.85 US each, and they currently show north of 1000 of each in stock.

Take a look and see if these are the correct fuses.

I hope that this helps you.

A 16600 series should be easy to open. Two T-10 screws on the top edge
of the case on the back, plus two T-15 screws holding the carry handle
on the side. Then the case should just slide off backwards.

Maybe the 16600-97010 Service Guide PDF file isn't available at
Keysight anymore.

I couldn't get the case off easy to clean the inside and inspect to see what the hardware is.??

The system firmware I'm guessing is ISL Revision A.00.38 OCT 26, 1994

Then ISL boots up hpux as noting "ISL booting hpux" and the HP-UX Start-up progress was all OK other than two N/A's from "Start Time Synchronization" and "Start httpd (Web Server)".?

Then the HP Logic Analysis System starts leading to the Windows 95'ish looking OS GUI with a Session Manager screen loading and then a Agilent Logic Analysis System, from 1999 based on the Copyright, splash screen. Then the 16601A Logic Analysis System screen starts showing the E5901A Emulation Module (guessing thats the 16610A) as Slot 1, HP 16601A in Slot A and HP 16533A in Slot B.??

I didn't connect anything to run yet since I need to read into and acquire a POD set.? Looks like there is a Demo Center and Help section installed, so I can start there since I have no documentation relating to.?

I was originally thinking I'd replace the P-ATA drive with a P-ATA SSD drive, though looks like the primary boot path is: SESCSI.6.0 with an alternate boot path: SESCSI.1.0.?

So I'm thinking this is a SCSI drive system and I've not swapped SCSI drives with an SSD yet.? Would swapping the drive using an adapter even be plug and play capable since there aren't SCSI SSD drives that I am aware of???

Thanks for the feedback.??

HP / Agilent 40-pin to 17-channel flying lead (16 data + 1 clock lead)
PODs are all the same from the 1650, 1660, 1670, 1680, 1690, and 16600
series analyzers, and the 16510A modules all the way up through the
16752B modules. With the exception of the 16910A / 16911A modules, the
16753A and newer modules use POD sets that are not common and are very
expensive, unless you use a Mictor or Samtec connection to the target.

Any common HP / Agilent 40-pin to 17-channel flying lead POD set
should work with the 16600 series analyzers.

The final version of the system software for the 16700 series is
version 2.90. For the 16600 series you need to go back to version 1.51
as the final version. You probably can't find that anywhere at
