Does this look like the part?

The price seems reasonable.

No, the bias on Q2 is correct if 120v is good.? The 16.8v base voltage reverse biases the b-e junction of Q2 turning it OFF.? The 7.27v b-e bias on Q1 HV OSC is problematic.? This shoud be no more than 1vdc or so with the oscillator running.? Power transistor sockets can get flaky with age, and sometimes simply removing and re-installing the transistor will cure the problem.

Dave,

HV OSC Q1 checks out just fine on my transistor tester and the connections to it from the board.

Do you mean like a capacitor shorting to ground? C3, C6, C7, C8 or C14 for instance?

Re: 8566B PL1 Unlock, PL2 Unlock and Ref Unlock

Glen, it could be a bad cap on the -10V as the voltage is lower than it should be and of all the caps, that is where I see 4.6V of AC.? I'm going to take it out and bridge in a cap that I have in that range.? It strange that it is showing up in the 12V supply but I guess since the reference voltage is hosed it could be the issue.

It's almost always a cap.

Thanks

Jerry

Re: HP 1740A HV Oscillator has stopped running

Graham,

By chance did you check the secondary is not being loaded down by a bad component? That would likely stall the oscillator.

Hi Ken

Please read my posting, I said PNP2N3055, yes their is such a device and it is PNP. It was produced as a compliment to the 2N3055.

Greetings,

Of course, the world is filled with things I don’t know - but I think the 2N3055 is an NPN transistor.

I believe its PNP complement is Mj2955.

Don’t just take my word, I may be wrong - double check.

Re: 8566B PL1 Unlock, PL2 Unlock and Ref Unlock

So the filtered feed to the 12V comes off the cap that also feeds the 20V supply.? I have around 30V coming off that cap into the 12V regulator.? The output of the 12V regulator is only 9.5V.

So I guess I can start by replacing the regulator which looks like a job.

Thanks for the input.

Dan,

I have a nearly complete T-200/500 that I got a couple of years ago. It's on a shelf around here somewhere. At the time I did a bunch of searching and discovered the TE-Connectivity replacement kit. I downloaded the basic instruction sheet and a bunch of files for using the kit for various Omni-Spectra SMA connectors. Let me do some archaeology and see if I can find the files. They may or may not be applicable to your kit, too.

I also see on Ebay a T-450 set....

Which gives me wonder....what connectors was it for.

So, I was wondering if anyone knows what Omni-Specta tooling numbers match which connectors....

And, is there any old catalogs out there with more detail?

Just a nice curiosity from the past that I'm trying to bring into the present....

Yes, I spoke too quickly about replacing the A17.? The regulator is off board on what I think is called the A23.? I'm trying to find the filter cap for the input to that regulator now but the schematic is hard to read.

Hi,
this looks like a power supply problem ;-)
I would invest a few hours on searching for the problem. If it is in the power supply, it is likely that you can fix it relatively easy. I would guess a bad capacitor or voltage regulator.
You can always get a new board, but first you should try to figure out what board you really need. I would be surprised if the problem is on A17.
Check the power supply and all other voltages before thinking about getting new boards!

Re: 8566B PL1 Unlock, PL2 Unlock and Ref Unlock

Changing the board won't help unless the raw supply filter cap for that supply happens to be on it. You likely just need to find and replace the cap and it should be good to go. I believe the cap is chassis mounted, or on the motherboard, or on a separate assembly along with some others.
