It's not like it was, 50 years ago when it would have taken 20 minutes (at most) to find out who the company is. Now a few seconds with a search engine would have told them who Keysight is. The difference between losing two portables and a couple vehicles vs losing the entire corporation is a huge error that a real journalist wouldn't have made.

All, ? I have a probe for the Boonton 91 just about free for the asking. It is a model 91-3C (electrical condition unknown - if you know how to test, tell me and I'll do it) with no screw-on tips and with a section of the cable taped for a few inches; it was probably attacked by a rogue soldering iron back in the day. It might fit in a padded envelope or it might have to go small flat-rate. Let me know if you're interested. ? geo

?Whats with the "Fake News" rhetoric. Using the term "Fake News" infers purposeful?deception which I highly doubt is the case. Reporters are humans and they do make mistakes. Also, not everyone?is an electronics nerd interested in $100,000 pieces?of test gear so It's not surprising that a normal person wouldn't know who Keysight is. How many electronics geeks?know who Beneteau is ??and yet they are worlds most highly regarded?builders of high-performance cruising and racing sailboats. By the way, a quick check if the USGS shows that there was indeed a small earthquake just outside Sonoma on the 14th.? ?? |

The calibration error codes are listed in service manual volume 3, page 11-15. May be ROM Checksum Error but follow recommended procedure in manual for your particular observations. 3585B Spectrum Analyzer
I was fortunate enough to receive the 3585b SA recently. When I first picked it up it powered up fine and display appeared to be normal.? Getting it home and after setting it up, it again worked fine. I ran some tests and looked at signals on the screen and was happy with what I was seeing.
However powering it up a couple of days later, there is no display other than a dot in the centre that flashes. While booting up, 1st heard is one beep followed shortly by 2 and then a long pause before several beeps are heard, about? 28.? They start off quickly and then slow down near the end. I've re-seated some boards and several connections with no change in results. Any help in pointing me in next steps would be most appreciated. thanks, Peter ve3poa |

It's similar to the HP 3400A and the Ballantine 323. The HP 3403C isAnd there the Millivac MV828-A which goes to just over 1GHz with 1mV FSD (-50dBm with the 50 Ohm head) Chopper amp and very stable...if you see one for sale make sure it comes with the cable (Mil Spec style plug) and with the plug in 50 Ohm BNC terminator And reliable..been using mine for over 10 years without a hiccup And there is an Hp 3400B which doubles the hi end bandwidth over the A model and has a solid state chopper. The Ballantine 323A series is more versatile than the Hp 3400 series and has a much larger scale with better reading accuracy with selectable input isolation from case , (that the Hp hasn't), and several options, meter damping ranges, battery operation and with bandwidths usually far in excess of the specs....the earlier ones used a mech chopper , later ones were solid state, but specs very much the same for both. I suspect that the WECO 372A is made up of two WECO 358A plugs along-side each other ‘cos we always used a pair of WECO 477B sockets for 124 Ohm on the front panel. In fact the ones we used were supplied direct
from Western Electric for contract products ‘cos the genuine article is not available commercially (I think). For Options such as on the 3586B, I believe the connectors used would be “commercial equivalents” of the WECO products. I saw that 3586 on ebay. the connectors on the back labeled Oven output and external reference need to be connected to each other. There are articles on the internet on how to convert the inputs from 75 ohm impedance to 50 ohm impedance. Check the schematic on the 3586C which has a 50 ohm impedance input. Paul Koby KA5OBI ? |

In a typical HP YTO loop config, one end of the main coil is connected to -40V, the other is connected to the emitter of the main coil driver. The current through the main coil is controlled by the drive transistor. Look closer to your driver board.?
The main coil has absolutely no chance of surviving a 40V DC. Do you have? schematics of the YTO loop? Good luck, Calvin |

If you use the search terms "Trompeter WECO" on eBy you will find several listings, some reasonably priced but make sure that you pick up the normal version for there is also a mini-WECO plug made as well. According to the HP data sheet, the 75 ohm output connector with Option 001 mates with the WECO 358 connector.? And if I am not mistaken, a company named MilesTek (no affiliation) has the adapter for about $13 (see ).? They also sell the mini-WECO as well. Without dragging my 3586 out of storage, I'm sorry that I can't offer a little more help. Greg |

I have a Ballantine 323 AC voltmeter and a Boonton 91H RF "millivoltmeter".? The Ballantine is solid-state and has a usable range to 20 MHz, the Boonton is vacuum-tube and has a usable range to 1200 MHz.? The Boonton meters are relatively easy to find, but the probes, cables
and probe accessories are often very scarce.? Both meters have the lowest scale of 1 mV FS.??? The meters have different intended purposes.? I'm sure that you could use them interchangeably for a few limited applications, but that's not what they were designed for.

436A power meter front panel inquiry
Before I resort to that famous auction site I wanted to inquire on this list to see if anyone might have parted out a 436A power meter and have a spare front panel in good condition available.? I just acquired a 436A that is in near new condition but, as many of us may experience in our gatherings someone decided to remove labels from the front panel and utilized a pocket knife, paint scraper, razor blade or something of that nature.? My unit unfortunately has lost much of the panel nomenclature along the right 1/3 or slightly greater area from what appears to be scraping and some form of aggressive solvent (MEK, acetone, lacquer thinner, etc.) applied to the plastic surface. ? The upside was a very reasonable price which included a working 18 GHz power sensor and the 30W attenuator as well.? The power meter itself is cosmetically perfect all the way around and works well.? Fortunately no one decided to use a permanent marker on the cover (classical military disposal depot trick). It’s just sad knowing that the non-technical don’t understand how to treat a fine piece of expensive (and working) equipment. Thanks, Greg |
