Re: OT: Datron or Wavetek Manuals
开云体育Hi Dave,A good number of years ago I acquired an older, used, Wavetek calibrator. ?I don’t remember the model number off hand, but it didn’t come with a manual.
I tried all the normal channels to find a manual and had absolutely no luck. ?I even called the factory and they were unable to help.
Out of final frustration I wrote the president of Wavetek a letter explaining that it was a shame to scrap such a nice piece of gear simply because I can’t find a manual and therefore can’t repair the unit.
He sent me a manual.
I assume you have checked the offerings on eBay.
Dave at ?lists the operating and programming manual. ?Apparently it is not a service manual and it does not include schematics.
Best of luck!
Regards,
Ken

Re: 8595E suddenly faulty
As to frequency range issue on your other S/A. If you have a signal generator or other source use something like a mini-circuits mixer and look at the difference frequency
Alternatively get one of the cavity type frequncy meters and a crystal detector Im assuming you dont have a microwave counter |

HP 8745ES
I have a problem with this unit. I have not used it for some time now but it was working fin then. But now when I switch the unit. the trace is not good and has large parts in it where it win not on the screen at all When I look at the R channel that's the same as the A/R channel. It looks like big steppes on the trace and these steps get longer as it sweeps fro 300KHz to 3GHz. I have not seen anything like this fault. Can anyone give me a clue ? I have measured the supply rails and they seem to be fine and stable. |

There would be a choice of material but these seem to be what was needed. You have to ask them for a quote and the unit price comes down significantly when you buy several hundred. Then they insist on shipping UPS when they would fit in an envelope... I think I got 800 in the end and most extras went to the -hp- group at around $10 for 50. Dan |

OT: Datron or Wavetek Manuals
Hi folks,
I'm looking for a complete set of User and Service Manuals for the Datron/Wavetek 4808 calibrator. In addition to the basic calibrator I also want manuals for Option 60 (aka Datron 4600 Transconductance Amplifier) and Option 70 which is the 10Hz-30MHz Wideband Source Ideally would like paper manuals but failing that I can manage with PDFs. Aside to Dave H. - I notice that you have a PDF of the User manual for the basic calibrator available - does it contain anything useful about either the 4600 or Option 70 and is it complete (including Chapters 7 and 8)? Thanks Dave Partridge |
Re: 8595E suddenly faulty
Hi Adri,
In the 8594E, I can check the power supply voltages on the A16 boards, there is 4 test points for 5v, +12v, +15v and -15v. May be it is the same with your SA? Re: 8594E power supply
For all of you with the 859X series portable spectrum analyzers, here is some information that may be useful. Earlier versions of the analyzers used a power supply which was designed and made outside of HP. After a few years, failures started surfacing and HP (re)designed the supply in-house. The later supplies are therefore a HP design and those are the ones for which a schematic is often available. Those schematics will have the HP logo, etc. in the bottom right corner.

Hi all,
Thanks for your help. I've just found a sch witch seems quite similar to what I have on the boards in this thread: So I can investigate a bit. The fuse didn't blown and no smoke! Hi : Is there anybody did repair the probe for HP 4815A ? Did anyone had measure the resistance between pins of the probe plug? I did but , the reading had big different from the manual page 5-13 ? I am using a HP412 to measure the DC resistance ! Any advise ? Regard Tony Cheung JUL 11 2017 |
Re: 8594E power supply
If the fuse isn't blown, some of the small 1-10 uf caps associated with soft start near the control IC may be bad.? You also may need to replace some of the caps on the output side of the supply.? A good ESR meter is useful along with a "octopus" or Huntron Tracker type unit that shows characteristic curves in circuit.? Use good caps sourced from a known non-counterfeit vendor... When servicing power supplies for the Heath/Zenith computers (1980's) we only occasionally had schematics.? We called the fuse the module replacement indicator due to the fact it took 4x longer to rebuild one that failed with magic smoke release... Re: 8594E power supply
Hi Roland
It is common for no schematics to be available for HP power supplies as these were frequently bought in to a specification not a design from third parties at the time that the 8594E was manufactured. My guess is that your chances of finding a spare PSU is about as good as finding Hens teeth. I can and have repaired HP switch mode power supplies.
