Re: HP detector
Is the detector DC coupled or is there a blocking cap ?

Re: 54717A Calibrator
I didn't know that it has no eeprom. It would be nice to have? some detailed pictures of trigger plugin from inside maybe that would help. About eeprom content i menaged do changed it so it's recognized as 54717A, but it doesn;t allow for calibration anyway without HW modifications. The plugin behaves like normal 54712A but with different name. I took out cpu board week ago, there is 16 flash ICs as someone mentoined before, maybe it would be easier to just hack the firmware instead of playing with calibration plugins ? This 54717A plugin is a cancer... I need order PLCC adapter to do this. BTW. Do you have operation system disk for it ??

Arkadiusz Gibes? , I own the trigger you mention look very similar to the calibrator but has no eprom inside my plan was to modi the ? trigger ..easy to do but cal unit has the eeprom and the unit fail when you try to calibrate due not recognized plugin
maybe contain a simple string or number? with the dump ill be easy to know ..next days ill post pics of trigger plugin and i try to check with scope data libe eeprom. |

Left to right in the photo is the input termination resistor, 50 Ohms, some sort of film deposited on the disk between the BNC male center pin and a contact ring to the case. The diode anode lead is soldered directly into the input center pin at 'zero length'. ?The cathode lead passes through the center of a disk capacitor, measured as ~1500pf, and on to the center pin of the output BNC female.? The assembly process will require care in soldering, I imagine it will go as: input R first, then output C, then screw gold plated center into the BNC male body, solder BNC female center pin to protruding cathode lead, and thread main body over all. Intend to measure performance on 8753D VNA when completed. More as it happens... |

Error E 7495B
Hello friends, I'm having problems with my E7495B, I used it a month ago and everything was normal. I went to turn it on again and put it to work and it showed the following message: Erase at 0x03a40000 failed immediately: -EROFS. Is the sector locked? Status is not identical for all chips: 0x8000a2. Merging to give 0xa2. What can it be? how can i proceed? Thank you friends! Hello dear members, I got a HP3580A in good working order, but having one problem. Many thank . |
Re: HP8594E : What is really needed when lost of cal data with dead battery?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMuch depends on how the equipment was designed.? For a scope, you could need a controlled square or sine wave source, various amplitudes and various frequencies.? Often it needs to have a particular command set and a controller (computer) to automate the tests.? Often, the tests are not specified, simply programmed.? The code source is not always documented.? All of this is true if and when the code is even available. It can get nasty. It also, as you note, depends on which set of constants you need
to regenerate.? Not all calibration procedures are documented to the extent you can perform them, even if you had the equipment. Harvey

Re: HP8594E : What is really needed when lost of cal data with dead battery?
Hi Nicolas,
I can report from my calibration experience with an HP8593E. I assume there is no big difference in procedures to your HP8594E. I purchased a used HP8593E to find that is was only calibrated to 18GHz. For the frequency range 18...27GHz there were no correction coefficients, so level readings were way off. Calibration required a stable generator for the frequency range in question, a high quality splitter and an accurate power meter. You have to take a level measurement with the SA at every single correction grid frequency (there are many!) and write it down. You find those lists in the manual. Then you have to enter all those numbers point by point into the instrument. I used the front panel keys to do that. This may be automated via GPIB, but you still need to get the numbers into a computer. It was very tedious and I refrained from re-calibrating the range below 18GHz. I do not ever want to do this again. That's why in the same pass I replaced the CMOS memory battery. Now, I should be safe for another 10 years. Best regards, Tom |
Re: My Agilent MSOX2024A hangs at boot. Will Keysight still repair it at no charge?
Hi Stan,
as Phil says, if Keysight does not guarantee you will need to do it yourself, you will need a LAN card for your DSOX2024. If you want, I still have some LAN cards available. You can see them on eBay by searching for:? "Agilent Keysight DSOXLAN Card MSOX DSOX 2000 3000 InfiniiVision Oscilloscope" Otherwise with, a little discount (45Eu. + Sp.), send me a PM to maurinot (AT) libero (DOT)? Have a good day. maurizio - Italy |
Re: HP8594E : What is really needed when lost of cal data with dead battery?
I Think I found the right section in the manual :
Reloading the Correction Constants This procedure assumes that you have valid correction constant data from a previous backup. Without backup data, new correction constants must be generated by performing the adjustments in Chapter 2. |
HP8594E : What is really needed when lost of cal data with dead battery?
I read everywhere that loosing the CAL data when the battery dies is like planning a ride through hell but nobody actually demonstrated what is involved when such thing happens.?
I even read the manual and it explains in details what to do and srite down measurements compensation. I did not read however how those manual readings are then set into the instrument¡¯s memory. ??

Re: 54717A Calibrator
All those plugins alse have HW difference so they can be identified and fixed/restored even with empty eeprom by mainframe unit. I spent quite lot of time o this. Would be nice to have trigger only plugin to track the HW difference/ idenrification section. Amplifier plugin seams to be to complex for that, especialy that there is not so much informatins about communication. Maybe plugins for 54750 would help also, as Mike mentoined before, they have thos selection swiches, which are responsible for HW identification, also they are a bit better documented.?? Best Regards Arkadiusz Gibes

An EEPROM dump would be a great asset, saving much grief in people that lost the 54720 mainframe calibration due to a stinkin' dead battery. The 54717 "calibrator" hardware is just a brain dead pair of coax cables and a limiter (which can be omitted, anyway).

Re: My Agilent MSOX2024A hangs at boot. Will Keysight still repair it at no charge?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThis is a well-known NAND flash corruption issue. ? Call Keysight and ask for a free fix, if they don¡¯t do it then report back. ? Read this if you want to do it yourself: ? ? ? ? ? ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Stan ? My MSOX2024A had been sitting on a shelf for several months without being powered up. This weekend when I powered it up for the first time, it would not boot up and froze with just the REF and MATH LEDs illuminated. Power cycling it (as had been suggested in another post) did nothing to resolve the problem. I had the same thing happen with another MSOX scope a few years ago and Keysight repaired it at no charge. Does anyone know if they still honoring that "extended warranty?" |
Re: 8594E input attenuator issue?
Can¡¯t help you with the screw, maybe a attenuator mounting screw if the unit assembled right.
Highly recommend you replace the battery asap. A new battery in place doing it¡¯s job should read greater than 3.6v, many around 3.63 to 3.65v? a Lithium Thionyl battery at 3.1V is considered near end of life if it more then 10-15 years old. the replacement is a easy process. Loss of cal data is a hard process to set right again. good luck. Gerald VK3GJM |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYou can call their customer contact center and ask. Worst thing that happens is they say no. Best thing is they say yes. Intermediate thing is they quote a reasonable price to fix it which will [probably include a fresh cal. Or may an unreasonable price, but that is your judgement call. ? Or , they might just tell you how to fix it yourself. ? The phone number is on their web website. ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Stan
