Hello group,
I have an HP 5326a that won't count past about 92MHz. Once I sweep
the signal from my rf gen past that, the scope zeroes out. Does

Roger,
You could just leave the can in place, clip its leads, and solder new caps to the leads. If it's not a leaded-type can, you might have to remove it. But, in that case, make sure that the can

Pigtail style caps with shrink sleeving, tie wraps etc (NOT ELECTRICAL TAPE !) to hold them together, kind of a kludge...but effective

If I recall there are two xtal oscillators. They are both designed along the same lines. Check the output on a good digital scope with at least 500 mhz bw. You will see where the problems

They all do that. The 8656A has a lot of close-in phase noise. Not clean
enough for any SSB work that requires an extremely stable reference.
