Yes, we have definitely done this to ourselves. Garbage like Wal*Mart
and McDonald's exist because people keep spending money there.

It's up to us smart people to put a stop to it, but we're vastly
outnumbered, especially now.

So, let the buyer beware.

Jeff, I am your friend and you know that I respect you. But I have to
ask that you drop this, immediately.

It's less a matter of readers being thin-skinned and more a matter of

That is why I'm making this request of you.

A 438A without a sensor or cable is worth maybe $100 or less, if it
works. One displaying error 51, well, as I said earlier, that's an
operator data entry error, but it's also possible that the unit is
broken and confused.

That said, the service manual with full schematics is available for
download.

I myself would probably offer $50 (USD) for it, if I were looking for one.

The 438A is a very nice instrument.

And I want to be an metrologist on this forum I'm sure I get an lot of help.
This is a helpful place, yes. There are many good and knowledgeable

Error 51 is, according to the manual, "entered offset is out of
range". This would seem to be an operator data entry error.
