Late model 5340A manual
Does anyone have any information on where to find a service manual for a late model 5340A?? The latest that I can find (and have) is for SN 1840A and above with change sheets out to 2012A, yet I have one with a SN of 2532A and a couple in between.? Did HP ever make later manual revisions, or only change sheets?? Either would help me, so TIA for any pointers.
Thank you, Hal |

Thanks everyone. The cap seems to have some sort of positioning arrow

that indicates either 120 or 240 mains AC. But I guess that doesn't matter. On Wed, Jun 9, 2021 at 9:47 PM Ozan <ozan_g@...> wrote:

Need info on TO-3 transistor insulator
I'm going crazy here. I've got a bunch of these high thermal conductivity hard-anodized aluminum TO-3 transistor mounting insulators salvaged from old gear, and planning to use some. I figured I'd check the thermal conductivity specs on line, and be done. I quickly found they are likely Thermalloy brand type 4703A, 4720A, or 4726A (same deal but slightly different outline sizes), with drawings and such, but no thermal specs. I can't seem to find any specs for these anywhere, just lots of pictures and references and ones for sale, but no useful info. Thermalloy apparently disappeared into a conglomeration some time ago. There's stuff floating around, but somehow it escapes me - maybe a mental block or 24 hour insanity. I even found the alumina types and specs, but no anodized. Somebody must still use and make these things. Or maybe all old/obsolete package stuff has disappeared for some reason. You'd think at least the old data sheets would be out there. The only outfits I recall from the old days are Thermalloy and Wakefield, and can't seem to spot anything useful on the later either. I just downloaded a recent Wakefield-Vette (now called) catalog, and they seem to be almost entirely about heatsinks and greases, and no hardware except some Kapton insulators.
Anyway, does anyone have this sort of info, maybe in old catalogs, or know where to look? All I need is the thermal resistance in simplest form deg C/W in TO-3 configuration. Ed |

Just push the cap in with a flat screwdriver and rotate counterclockwise to remove and inspect the fuse. If you want you can paint the fuse holder cap black with a permanent marker?to match the original color for 220/240V (gray->110/120V, black->220/240V) after placing the correct fuse. Ozan |
Re: Hp8558b spectral analyzer (2/2)
The capacitor in the original input assembly will block DC from reaching the attenuator.
Yours may have been damaged by having DC or excessive RF level applied to the input. The attenuator should measure 50 ohms resistance because it is constructed of resistive divider elements. This is a common problem.? There are numerous articles on-line that show how to check and repair these attenuators. Such as:? |

Thank you for your answer. I've this manual but (unfortunately) the information about phase slope and reflection group delay are not included and the drawings contain no tolerances. In that case someone owns such a sliding load and has the capability to measure it, it would be helpful. Our old 905A meets the SWR spec but the phase slope isn't linear as expected and it doesn't change well by moving the slider. Each part has been cleaned and inspected - similar to other sliding loads - and damages/scratches/etc. are not visible. But the measurements show visible ripple and some phase jumps - it requires more attention. Best regards, Stephan On Mittwoch, 9. Juni 2021 20:20:18 CEST you wrote:

Re: Capturing screenshots on 8934C
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi, For the 8924C, you must have a special cable to use it with the BTS software. Have you this cable? Wiring is OK? Printer config set to DESKJET ? BTS software and cable to have for 8924C ? . ? Otherwise, the 8924C does not seem to have a plotter function (HPGL image file), but only a printer function according to the little information I have. If there had been a possibility of an HPGL image, it would have been relatively simple. ? The BTS software should have worked, but I will see using another hp instrument, which has the printer DESKJET configuration if I can decode and retrieve an image. ? Yves ? De?: [email protected] <[email protected]> De la part de w9dkc ? I have the BTS laptop utility. It works perfectly on my 8935, but I can't get it to work on the 8924. I use the 8924 more because of it's auto-ranging feature. |

It just means that you need to change the switch position and change the fuse itself, NOT the fuseholder.

Re: Hp8558b spectral analyzer (2/2)
Hello,
NJ902, please? Can you be more specific What¡¯s a DC block? For me a capacitor dont't indicate 0 ohm? What is excatly the impedance of the attenuator? If someone have a HP8558B analyzer and put un ohmeter on the N plug, what is the result: Infinite, 50 ohms, other???? Without specific cases of measurement I do not move forward You said: ""The attenuator input section appears to be damaged," Why??? cdt |

Verifying HP905A Sliding Load - request for further technical specs
Dear all,
I would verify some of our 'old' calibration equipment and my question is: Does anybody have the spec sheet from the HP905A sliding load (1.8-18GHz)? I'm interested in the following data: - phase slope for lower/upper sliding position - reflection group delay (max value) - drawings (including tolerances) Thanks in advance. Best regards, Stephan |

Re: HP 3457A mains voltage setting
Not certain about the settings (shouldn't it be in the manual?) but the fuse is generally 1/2 the 120 volt rating, and should be listed on the back.? I know that Tek generally has a "gross" setting, 120/240 and then a low/med/high adjustment for variations within that range.? For USA 120 volts, you generally want the high setting.

I'd suspect that HP did much the same, it makes too much sense. Harvey On 6/9/2021 12:25 PM, cheater cheater wrote:
