Hi Gedas

?

Hopefully you are going to be the light at the end of the tunnel because it is an up hill struggle trying to resurrect old computer hard war into ?working systems

?

Glen? I am no software man so software? and HP basic will be an up hill struggle for me? thank you for the links

So all the software to run the viper is on the 5 old 5.25 floppy disks? or 2 newer 3.25 ?floppy? ?disks

?

My Viper baud is based on a 68000???? part number 82321-60011? with a sub PCB on it part number ??82305-60001

The idea of getting the Viper bourd working is to use it for the HP drive project as a reliable storage medium

I just set up a dedicated system that boots into MS-DOS 6.22 with no
version of Windows of any kind installed.

If I needed to easily and quickly move files between the HP BASIC
system and a modern system I would probably add an Ethernet card to
the HP BASIC system and run mTCP software on top of DOS to FTP files
to and from the system.

You could also set up a system that could dual boot into either DOS or
some version of Windows so you could boot into DOS when you want to
run HP BASIC and then boot into Windows when you want to do stuff on
Windows.

Actually, I just bought the thing. I'm going to take a stab at
reverse-engineering it and see if I can come up with something
reproducible. It'll make a good late-summer project. ;-)

Hello,
Sorry for being slow and silent - I am the guy who planned (or still plans) an adapter. Sadly, things were fucked up a little bit here: my exwife is in hospital again (as always), and one of my employees has a tussle with the German mafia.

I am, in principle, still interested in tackling the problem. My main questions are:
A) is anyone willing to betatest. This, I ask as I have no HP HIL capable workstation; my logic analyzer is a 16500C and a 16700A who both do PS2.

B) would a price of 50USD for keyboard and 75USD for keyboard and mouse work?

The major distributors are Mouser, Digikey, Hamilton-Avnet. You might
want to look at surplus distributors such as All Electronics,
Electronics Goldmine, and (not quite a surplus distributor) Jameco.

I've dealt with all of them, they're quite reliable. Sometimes prices
for the major distributors do vary a bit, but be sure to figure in
shipping and taxes as well.

Re: HP 9000 300 & HP-HIL keyboard

Hello,
On the risk of getting my ass booted off this esteemed quorum for advertising shit or some horsecrap (got burnt at the Danaher owners guild), some advice.

I recently found myself using both OctoPart an OemSecret for finding components cheaply. If you buy one pricey item or many ones so that shipping doesn't bite, the sites are really useful. OemSecret has more vendors in its list, but Octo has the better user interface.

You could also set up a system that could dual boot into either DOS or
some version of Windows so you could boot into DOS when you want to
run HP BASIC and then boot into Windows when you want to do stuff on
Windows.

Hi Harvey,

You should take a look at this on ebay, not my listing.

There are two main versions, the 68000 based 82321 and the 68030 based 82324

http://www.hpmuseum.net/display_item.php?hw=681
http://www.hpmuseum.net/display_item.php?hw=909

Those pages have links to documentation and HP BASIC 5.14 and HP BASIC
6.2 software disks.

The actual BASIC software runs on the 68K processor on the board. Part
of the software also runs on the host PC to connect the PC keyboard,
display, and storage devices to BASIC software running on the 68K
processor. The host PC software runs on top of plain DOS. You need to
install it on a PC that can boot into plain DOS, not any form of
Windows while the software is running. Obviously the PC also needs to
be old enough that it has an ISA bus slot to install the board.

I have both 82321 and 82324 boards and have gone through the exercise
of getting them set up and running on an old PC.

HP 8082A Test Box

I have a HP 8082A that I got on Ebay for a great price.

The front panel needs a good cleaning and the power supply caps need changing.

It works correctly, I would like to perform a calibration.

The manual specifies a 15265 test box in the calibration procedure.

Does anyone have any info on this test box.?

Thanks
