Re: HP 54542C display swap

Is it possible to buy one of these converters? I have the same problem on my HP54542C!
Thanks.

Re: HP141T with multiple sections

Don't list it for free, it'll just get picked up by the local trader, like the working one on the MIDCARS sale a few years ago, that buyer had absolutely no clue how to use it, twiddled all the controls, set the intensity to max for the pictures and listed in on ePay for 4 times the price.
?
The comment about tech schools, no school here would want something this old, they would chuck it straight in the nearest skip if you donated it to any here.
?
Even though it's old, it's still inexpensive compared to modern stuff for the range the 8555A covers, of course the front end on anything old could be damaged, the same can be said for second hand modern kit.
?
And yes I wouldn't bother with an LCD kit myself.

Re: HP8753E, 8753D, 8753ES 3.5" disk drive replacement reference information

Great information!
?
Should the original brand have been spelled "Teac"?? Letter C instead of a K

HP8753E, 8753D, 8753ES 3.5" disk drive replacement reference information

These go bad over time.? Often they will give a little warning and be "flakey" for a while before they fail catestrophically.? While there are other good options to save data via GPIB, etc., here is some information for those who wish to keep your drives functional.?
?
Here are the original part numbers as far as I have been able to determine:
HP8753D:? FD-05HF 240, Teak, PN: 19307522-40.? HP part number 0950-2348.

HP8753E:? FD-04HF 2304, Teak PN: 19308023-04.?

HP8753ES:? FD-05HF 5630, Teak, PN: 19307556-30.

HP8753ES:? FD-05HG 5701, Teak, PN: 19307557-01.

?
Prices for these original drives tend to hover around $100, though sometimes they are as low as about $30
?
Suitable generic replacements:
FD3238H (NEC) (narrow, spacer required on side if used with the D or E)
MPF820 (sony) (narrow, spacer required on side if used with the D or E)
MPF720-3 (sony) (narrow, spacer required on side if used with D or E)
?
Prices for these replacement drives tend to be around $20, but are sometimes less.? The side eject button on the 8753D is relatively rare if you do not use the original part number.? Grey is also rare as most of the replacement drives are black.
?
Please add additional details, options for replacements, etc., in the comments.

One advantage of the 141 system - it's repairable.

On another more modern, valuable model with parts NLA,? it might be worthwhile. List your unit free for pickup and see it gone. There's hundreds of other projects to start that make more sense.

Re: Troubleshooting a 8591e with opt 130

Hey Adri and Yves,
?
To begin with the spikes while varying Ref levels that where only present with Correct on, these are indeed gone. I'm guessing they where caused by incorrect gain in the Lin vs Log paths causing the self cal to try to correct that away but at a certain point there's some kind of a crossover and there the corrections causes 2 levels which should be 10dB apart to get so close together that you get these strange spikes. How are the Lin and Log levels when correct is off, or even with a Factory default cal for your analyzer?
?
Over to the Freq Uncal Issue, this one was rather easily to tackle luckily. I removed the RF section again, took out the YTO, took it apart, checked all the flatcable leads with a low resistance meter, all fine. Rebuilt my RF section and turned the analyzer back on, issue still present.. Then I had a good scratch behind the ears and looked at the schematic, checked all the connections to the YTO to see where to start measuring. Instead the STBL line caught my eye, used to stabilize (i guess) the FM coil drive voltage in certain cases, but it was coming from the same 74HC374 I had previously replaced because of the A5 attenuator driver line. I already reinstalled the original 74HC374 but still in the IC socket. Thinking that was too much of a coincidence I gave the IC a small push with a screwdriver and the Freq Uncall is gone right away. So the IC just wasn't seated well enough. i'll make a mental note to remove the socket and directly solder it in again some time soon.
?
So now i'm going to but the RF section back and install the Fast ADC option this time, let it warm up again and do another full self cal, let's see if the analyzer is fully up and running again.

Re: Wanted: Manual for HP 6116A power supply

Well, how about that. Something must have been up with my internet, as the manual didn't show up on the Artek site when I checked before...
?
I am a happy repeat customer, so that might be the easiest, pending sourcing the paper manual from ebay.

Re: Shielded probe cables?

Yes, the connector on the chassis I believe is FCN-215Q060-G/0 (male).? And for completeness, the connector on the cable side is FCN-214J060-G/0 (female).
?
There are a couple of different flavors, such as straight and right angle for both.? Here is the datasheet:
?
?
?
However, after looking this morning I'm not seeing much availability.? Maybe you'll have better luck.? A possible source could also be salvage from a hopeless LA module.? There's no lack of these connectors out there that are installed on boards.? You might also be able to unsolder the connector from the cable and interface directly to the small PCB that's inside the shell.? Keith has some excellent photos and description of what's in the shell:
?
?
?
I don't think I would try unsoldering the ribbon itself to connect to your own adapter.? If you look at the photos, it's very fine work and was clearly done at the factory with special soldering equipment and jigs.? Plus this cable, like all the 40-pin cables, is lossy and has a very fine center conductor probably made of nichrome, which is difficult to solder.
?
Or just go with one of the cables that has the more common 2x20 on the end that connects to the 5032.

Re: HP141T with multiple sections

Removing the CRT won't make much difference to the weight, most of the weight is in the transformer & plug-ins. Also you will still need most of the electronics for the plug-ins.
?
Personally I would make the LCD thingy a completely separate part, as shown in the video.

I second, third and fourth that. Not only are the manuals excellent, but Artek is a good firm.

That link is for a 6112A (0-40V), not a 6116A ( 0-100 0-100 V).

Artek manuals have it - their scans are usually top notch - no connection just a happy customer, I have bought many dozens over the years.

Either an original paper version, or a high quality scan would be great. (I'll pay for the original paper manual, shipped to Japan).
The copy on the Keysight website is atrocious, and the usual suspects for manuals don't seem to have a copy for this instrument.
