Re: HP 8360-Series Sweeper CLIP soon available on KO4BB

Wow, that is fantastic.
I have a 83620 sitting here that has some issues so I might finally be able to fix it.

?

With kind regards, Rene

Re: E4404B Noise floor with 1DS option

What a coincidence, I was just thinking of maybe selling the E4402B that I've just repaired (see my other threads in this group). It's taking more space than I hoped, and I'm not using it nearly as much as I thought I would. PM me if interested.

Re: Request HDD image for Agilent Infiniium DCA 86100C mainframe

Maurizio, the archive contains HDD Raw Copy Tool for Windows. The archive itself is a WinRAR.

Hi Stan,
This .EXE is just an system update and can be downloaded from the Agilent website. I need a full system copy. I guess the total size will be ~2 GB.

Alex.

Re: E4404B Noise floor with 1DS option

Why not consider a E4402B, lot easier to find

1DS is a software option (if the SA is not to old) and easy to enable

Hi Yves,

Wow that is fantastic.

With my old 8594E I'm struggling to get down to -90dBm, which is about the same level as the noise I'm trying to measure.
To get down that low will make a big difference.

My next challenge is to find a E4404B with 1DS at a reasonable price.

Thanks very much,

Kind regards,
?- Guy

Re: E4404B Noise floor with 1DS option

If you only need to operate up to 1GHz, one cheaper option is to make an external wideband preamp (eg 30dB gain) for the HP 8594E and then offset the amplitude reference level by the gain of the preamp. It should be possible to make a preamp with a sub 4dB noise figure and flat gain up to 1GHz using cheap MMIC parts from Analog devices or Minicircuits.

The input VSWR up to 1GHz will probably be better than the 1DS preamp as well.

It does look like your HP 8594E is a bit noisier than expected though. -90dBm with a 1kHz RBW is quite poor. Is this with 0dB input attenuation?

Note that if you want to measure noise more accurately, it's best to use the 1Hz noise marker function in the 8594E. This will be better than using a normal marker and a 1kHz RBW.

Hi Guy,

?

I have an E4407B with 1DS option (same specification as the E4404B for noise in the 790-810 MHz band).

So, for the 790-810 MHz band I get -139.6dBm.

Dear list,

I'm hoping to purchase an E4404B for noise measurements between 650MHz and 1GHz.
According to the Datasheet, the floor should be around -130dBm with a 1DS option (RBW = 1kHz).
I'm hoping I to run a simple test on the unit I'm planning to buy to check this...

(i) Terminate the Analyzer input (50ohms)
(ii) Set the scope to scan from 790 to 810 MHz
(iii) Set the RBW to 1kHz
(iv) Grab a screenshot - the noise floor should be around -130dBm

Anyone out there with an E4404B (+1DS option) that can run this simple test for me?

Thanks,
?- Guy.

Are all supply voltages correct?

+10V/-10V diagnostics are very basic tests, it is easier to debug them which hopefully shows the root cause. +10V reference starts from U25 pin6 and its buffered version shows up at emitter of Q150 also J-22 on A7 board. If you don't see +10V at that location, either +15V/-15V supplies are missing or you have a board with a faulty reference section like the original one (unlikely).

Assuming you see +10V reference at emitter of Q150, this voltage goes through test muxes U15A->U17->right side of R17 (J1-31) with 1/10 attenuation and shows up as 1V during +10V diagnostic routine. If the muxes don't pick the right input there could be an issue with address/data bus in the connector of A7.

If you see +1V (attenuated 10Vref) at J1-31 during +10V test, and -1V at -10V test next possibility is ANA_TEST input of U64 in processor board is damaged (or ANA_TEST trace is damaged, worth checking the connectivity). 2V reference is passing, which is another input to the same mux so rest of the chain looks fine. If you have another processor board (08590-60365 ? ) you could swap and check. You can also look at output of U64 (or U45 with x1.68 gain) in 10V and 2V reference routines.?

I don't know if the test voltages stay static of pulsed during diagnostic tests, if DVM doesn't show expected voltages at mux outputs you may need an oscilloscope.

Hi Alex,

I have an exe file with the 86100C A.10.82 firmware. It's a bit over 130 MB in size. How can I get it to you?

HP 8360-Series Sweeper CLIP soon available on KO4BB

Dear all,

I just uploaded this (very rare) manual to KO4BB's website. It now needs to be verified and then will be available for download.
So all owners of a 83620 and variants will have this finally on their hand.

A big thanks to everybody that contributed!
If you find a mistake, please let me know.

Cheers,
Martin

Hi Alex,
Thanks again for the image, I'll try it as soon as I get home.?

What program do you recommend to transfer the image to the HDD?

Best regards?
Maurizio?

I appreciate the link to the article on the FRAM modification. I have a 54501A headed this direction DOA and once the power supply is sorted I suspect that NVRAM will be an issue. That article saves me a bunch of time chasing data sheets.?

Thanks for sharing the NVRAMs have been a issue for a long time.
Particularly in Tek 2465 scopes. The glitchhawk link seems to do a really great job of showing how to outfit a new battery. At my capability.
Thanks

Hi Alex,
I’m very interested in your Win98 HDD image.?

My 86100A lost some program files.?

thanks a lot.?

Hi..

There is plenty of stuff on the interweb, showing how other people managed to remove the battery "Hat" of a NOVRAM, and wired in an external cell.

Re: HP 3585B Spectrum Analyzer How to start diagnosing "No Horizontal sweep" problem

Check your unit. There are apparently two different setups for the horizontal oscillator/HV section. One version has the oscillator and flyback all one one board, which is located under the shielded HV box. Mine was different and I think the later rev. The oscillator section was on one board, with the flyback/HV portion being a separate board which was under the shielded HV box. The fuse was on the oscillator board. If you have to do any repairs to the HV supply you’ll have to check and possibly reset the CRT high volts. The value is written on your flyback and that procedure is also in the SM. Bear in mind, it’s around 4KV so it can kill you dead.?
