That looks like an R/332, 16MHz 68030. It's a fairly standard Series 300 machine, but in a nice rackmount chassis with integrated display and keyboard. It will run HP RMB (BASIC) etc.

Re: N9020A

If you had a name of a serious seller, it would be a lot easier. Indeed, when you search, there are so many... And most of them only show one photo with no description. So it's impossible to know what options are installed.

On the other hand, I once had the experience of buying a tel N5020A (which I didn't buy), even though it was sold from Korea and had ALL the options installed. Worse still: it went up to 26.5 GHz, whereas according to the serial number (according to my friend at Keysight) it was only a 13.5 GHz model. I was ready to buy it... except that when I asked the seller to provide me with a Keysight verification report with the unit, he told me he couldn't send it to Keysight because all the options and modifications were unofficial.

However, the serial number label on the back of the unit did indeed show 526 and all the other options.

So you need to know: if this type of device breaks down, it won't be possible to get it repaired by Keysight.

Can anyone recognize this HP Computer? Workstation?

Hello,

I was looking for an HP 9000 series 300 to run the HP BASIC software and
I found this one in the photo attached.

Does anyone recognize the model number? Looks interesting to have the
display integrated to put it in the rack.

I only found logic analyzers from early 90's that have a similar case style.

Thanks,
Razvan

Re: HP 8568A YTO UNLOCK repair

Interesting,

So it was your LODA that was faulty in the end or something Elise ??

I know about the "SHIFT +FREE RUN" command to ignore any YTO UNLOCK, but i dont know about the other one, i'll give a look at that, thanks !

Yes there's a service manual available online for the 8568A , at around 10 dollars

Re: HP54501a oscilloscope repair. Bad display

hello all,
first of all, real device model is HP 54501a (not 503a, my bad).
After reading the 3 eproms (two 27C010 and one 27C210) using my brand new XGevu T48, I see that the two 27C010 read normally, as well as the replacement I sourced on the interweb, yet the original 27C210 comes back with an ID error message : "Check ID error. Checked ID is 0x0089 00EE"
Reading the new 27C210 gets me a different ID and a correct reading of its content (all FFFF of course).
Thus, this 27C210 might be corrupted and I'm looking for someone willing to share the content of his beloved HP54501a corresponding eprom.

I can share the content of both 27C010 if someone is interested. No such data found on the web so far,
Best regards
PK

I debugged a similar issue on an 8566B (fortunately it was LODA and not YIG) and I believe 8568A shares most of the architecture with 8566B. On 8566B:
- There is a jumper to disable YTO unlock interrupt to the CPU. This solves the unresponsive keyboard and rotary knob issue.?
- There is another jumper to force PLL control voltage to mid point. In your YTO sweep you may need to disable PLL to prevent interfering with the YTO sweep.

Is there a service manual available online for 8568A? I can provide the jumper information of 8566B for reference or if there is a 8568A manual I can check if similar jumpers exist.

Re: Testing Scope Probes

The next thing I tried was to put a tiny 10R SMD resistor across the 50R termination. This brings the effective source impedance down to about 7 ohms. This should really reduce the droop at 500MHz.
When I do this with the simulation, it predicts 1dB droop by 500MHz when the system is loaded by the 10073C probe.

When I did it for real, with the real test system, it gave the result below with the 10073C probe. This also shows about 1dB droop. This is a really good result I think!

It would be nice to do this with a better scope. My Tek scope doesn't have a great front end design. It's noisy and uses cheap SMD technology on a regular PCB for the front end. It does offer 1GHz BW but only above 5mV/div. Some of the ripple and noise in the plot below will be in my noisy old Tek scope. Some of the ripple will be in the 10073C probe, but at the moment it's hard to know (for certain) what causes the subtle ripple in the plot below. The simulation predicts a fairly smooth 1dB decline by 500MHz with none of the ripple seen in the plot below.

Re: Hp16702a Reignite freez

Okay, it's really silly. I dealt with the problem in a fairly simple way - the battery was dead and needed to be replaced.
Without a battery, or with a 0V battery, it is impossible to perform the Reignite procedure; the device will throw errors and notes. It previously seemed to me that the battery is solely responsible for the clock, and that when connected to 230V, the power supply provides the RAM with the necessary voltage to save data, as in modern PCs, but this is not so.
By the way, to connect a CD-ROM it is not necessary to have an adapter from one scsi connector to another, or to change the cable. It is enough to disconnect connector J10 and connect it to the CD-ROM , placing a jumper on it to turn on the terminator.?
Power for the CD-ROM can be taken from the MOLEX HDD; its design allows you to continue the line with new wires.
It is also useful information that DVD-ROM can be used for this procedure, because any DVD is also a CD.
Here is the I used, it is tested and works.

Re: Testing Scope Probes

I managed to write some code to control the sig gen and the 1GHz Tek scope using the classic levelling system described a few posts ago.

I tested the 50R input of the scope first and it was flat to within about 0.2dB up to 500MHz. This doesn't prove very much because this scope has a different path for the 50R input, but it was still interesting to do it.
I then swapped to the 1Meg input and compensated the 10073C probe using the usual procedure and then tested it for the frequency response when fed with a 50R source and a 50R termination. This is the Tektronix method.

See below for the result. It looks quite similar to the simulation I did earlier. The response is 3.5dB down at 500MHz. I was expecting it to show a bit more droop than this, but it appears to show the correct response when the system is loaded by the probe.

Re: HP8484A failure modes

That's a good point. The schematic only shows a single diode in the probe.? But I did also find a figure for the bulkhead output when fed 10uW and mine is low, so I suspect it's an ESD type failure of the diode.?

Yes Carsten the same items are listed with multiple sellers and understand it looks a bit bogus.

However it looks like mobile phone manufacturers are getting rid of their old test kit to anyonyone and various 3rd parties are selling them on.

They've probably got 100's if not 1000's of them.

Some seem to have no idea and eventually found a seller via the .com site rather than the .co.uk site with a better price and who was willing to communicate, show pictures of the options etc.

The adverts are poor and cut and pasted and do say 'Brand new', XP system etc as the sellers dont know what they are selling.

You may be able to get a $1200 one with all the options if you look hard enough. I paid a bit more but as a run a business so it hurts less!!

Will report back when it arrives.

p.s. Oh just to answer the other question re 'Is it any better than a 8566B'

Yes, very much so as it's way more than a Swept Spec Ani.
