¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYou can check this Youtube video:? Solving exactly the same issue as you have. It shows how to check all power supplies and also how to switch on the instrument by shorting specific contacts on main board what should tell you whether your meter or just keypad are faulty.

Re: HP 8970B noisy fan
In my HP5345A I have EBM-Papst 4606N fan. This type is still being produced, it is 115V/20W with 106 CFM but it is 51dB(A)! Counter is specified for operating temperature from 0 to 55 degC. As we don't have 55degC in our homes, I am sure lower CFM will work fine.

The most silent fan I have found is 22dB(A) but just 53CFM - type OA125AP-11-3TB. I am more considering another fan 76CFM with 32dB(A) - type 11938MB-A1K-EA-00. Still not decided which one to buy. Re: Convert monochrome 5454x scope to color
I've replaced my ccfls via the above parts, what a difference. Next question, I can't find any info on the inverter board. For some reason, HP doesn't seem to have provided any backlight intensity control or LCD contract control. I'm reasonably sure the inverter does have a brightness adjustment. Anyone have any info on either the inverter or what the 542C does for setting intensity and contrast?

I have an older HP 8970B which is however in good condition. Just one thing is annoying, the fan is very noisy and makes a loud squeaking noise. I guess the bearing has become bad.I have had good luck with that sort of thing by adding some lubricant to the fan bearings. Probably the lube that's in there now has degraded, with the lighter fractions evaporating so what's left has turned to bubble gum. In most cases, you can access the bearing by peeling back the paper label that's on one side. I've used sewing machine oil, but any light oil should work... -- Member of the toughest, meanest, deadliest, most unrelenting -- and ablest -- form of life in this section of space, ?a critter that can be killed but can't be tamed. ?--Robert A.
