Re: HP 8970B calibration / account for loss during calibration
Are you measuring 50 or 75 ohm devices?? ? If 50 ohm devices, then the pad has to go on the output of the noise source, which affects the ENR of the source¡¯s input to the DUT, and needs to be accounted for in the ENR table. If you are using a nominal 5 dB source, that gets the ENR down close to zero, which, for high gain, low noise devices, is actually a good thing so long as it doesn¡¯t go negative. With a 15 dB ENR source, no problem but the table still needs to be corrected for the pad. ? If you are measuring 75 ohm devices, then the pad will go on the input to the NF meter, and the cal will take care of it. ? SF34 is there, as you said, to correct for things that were not present during the cal process. This is always an approximation so best avoided if you can as it increases the measurement uncertainty, which is going to be around .2 dB at best. ?

Is it possible to account for a loss between HP8970B and the noise source during calibration? I.e. to have the same loss during calibration and during the measurement. The HP 8970B manual says, that special function 34 (loss compensation) assumes that the loss wasn't present during calibration. Background: I have 75Ohm noise sources and I would like to use them in combination with the HP8970B. As this instrument has 50Ohm system impedance a permanent 75<->50 Ohm matching pad (5,72 dB loss) has to be used to transfer the system impedance. However this has to be accounted for during the calibration and measurement.

For sale small display for the 70K MMS system. Tested OK but the front faceplate and RFI gasket are missing : front plate of the CRT is directly exposed (like the old 180X oscilloscopes), very bright display but don't use a hammer to adjust the tube... PM please.

Re: Selling experience, sorry OT again
Dr Dave, Just put a long Dispatch Time in when you list an item. I use 5 Days. (next option is 10) That is the time you hve from the buyer paying and you shipping before it affects your seller ratings. I find 5 days is enough for payment to be cleared into my bank account.

Hello Tony, when pushing the button "DISPLAY" get a vertical beam?

FWIW, I've repaired a good number of 182C and 182T in a distant past and often there was a carbon composition resistor (100 ohms) going open in the cathode drive circuit. Frank

Same here. eBay Managed Payments is a bookeeping nightmare. But payments have been made the day after shipment quite reliably.

Re: Selling experience, sorry OT again
PayPal fees for FX are incredibly high, 3..5% worst foreign currency exchange rate, plus fees, etc.
You always have the option to dump epay all together and simply sell on your own website, our firm has done so since 1995, and never sell on epay.
For epay, What about payment via bank transfer? Physical paper bank check? Still.aloowed?

Yes. And now they charge fees on any sales tax collected as well. So if you sell to a buyer who is not tax exempt, you get screwed even more! Almost sounds illegal.

One big example of an inventory tax is California, which has caused many companies to store their inventory in neighboring Nevada. Overnight shipping from Reno or Las Vegas to LA or San Francisco is relatively inexpensive so Nevada gains while California loses.?

Unfortunatly ebay have us over a barrel to some
extent. My personal opinion is they don't want small
qty private sellers. Probably becuse a number of
them cause too many claims. You have to use "managed
payments" in the UK now. Ieven if there is no
holding period you still have to wait a few days for
the payment to come through. I now put? 3 or 4 day
shipping time on my listings so I at least have the
postage cost in my account.
The worst thing I have had is an item sold to
europe and not only did ebay charge me an additional
international sales fee, they charged the seller 20%
VAT and then charged me 10% comission on the VAT! As
far as I can tell as a private individual selling a
used item VAT should not have been charged in the
first place.
Unfortunatly none of the alternative marketplaces
have the exposure that ebay has.
