Drew, If it runs the self test on power up, and you get the message SELFTST: PASS followed by the HPIB address it should then default to Channel 1 frequency measurement.? Simplest check is to connect the 10 MHz output at the back to Channel 1 input, then switch to channel 2 and do the same.? This is all covered in the manual which I'm pretty sure can be found on line.? There is also a full self test you can invoke, details in the (service) manual. There's a lot to learn from the manuals, hours of fun reading :^) Dan ac6ao / g3ncr

Selling experience, sorry OT again
I sold something on Ebay but my money was put on hold for 2 weeks. My item is already delivered. Here is the explanation:
Me: No one has ever given me less than 100% FB in over 20 years.

Yes I totally understand and I can see that the system detected that the account was a casual seller on site. As for your reference, for this not to happen in the future, you need meet these three (3) requirements: You have to be actively selling on site for more than 90 days. The account have more than 25 domestic transactions. The account have more than ?165 total sales. Once you have met these three (3) requirements the funds will never be placed on hold again.
What is more they took 20% and I have to fight to get my funds which I have not yet seen.Maybe they hope some people will forget. I am looking for an alternative to ebay. Has anyone used Bonanza? What are you guys using? I just started using test-equip-trader. What about Paypal? Any suggestions or are they still reasonable to use to buy and sell.

Re: Agilent 44xx ESG RF Generator question
Hi, ? The E44xx series generators do not have continuous sweep. So, as you mentioned, there are sweep from a list or by defined step, but only for 401 points maximum. ? Yves ? Hello, I am considering the purchase of an RF generator for R&D and RF alignment purposes.? Looking at the Agilent 44xx series, it looks like the sweep functions are Step and List Sweeps.? I read the manual for these generators and could not find any reference to a continuous frequency sweep.? Has anyone experience with these to clarify?? In order to see ripple on a filter passband, continuous sweeps would be most valuable. Cheers! Howard Hoyt

Re: HP141T SA Blowing Fuses
Listen to Dave Wise. His info on the TL431 fix for the Krypton doped neon lamp works very well. It¡¯s in the group photo section, page 4 I think. Add the diode he mentions in the text for better thermal stability.

Re: HP141T SA Blowing Fuses
This is a well-known problem.? The glow-tube voltage reference (V1) may not read high on a voltmeter, but it is ¡°lazy¡± starting up, and during that time the power supply output overshoots.? If it goes high enough long enough, it will activate
the ¡°crowbar¡± protection circuit in the 8552, which shorts the rail to ground and pops the fuse.
?
The easiest fix is to replace the glow tube with a solid-state reference.? Ed Breya came up with a simple design using a TL431 solid-state zener.? Search the groups.io HPAK forum for topic and photo album titled ¡°141T reference replacement¡±.?
Here¡¯s a direct link to the schematic:
/g/HP-Agilent-Keysight-equipment/photo/68333/805596?p=created%2C%2C141t+reference+replacement%2C20%2C2%2C0%2C0
?
This mod can be tacked across the glow tube, you don¡¯t even need to remove it.

?
I was recently given an HP141T / 8552B / 8554B spectrum analyzer by a retired electronics engineer. It looks ine xcellent condition and I believe he would have looked after it.? He warned me that it tended to
blow fuses when it had not been powered up for a while and he even gave me a pack of 1 amp fuses. Guess what, he hadn¡¯t powered it up in a while and it just eats 1A fuses ¨C there are two in the IF section both fed by the 141T 12.6v supply. So far blowing fuses
is just about all it does though I can see a cursor on the screen since the 141T gets its power before the blown fuse. I¡¯m more familiar with simpler test gear so I need to tread slowly and carefully!
?
I had read here that the 82 volt stabilizer tube goes high with age and was hoping that was it. But the voltage across the tube reads 81.9 so it is not the problem. The LV voltage levels are mostly within tolerance
(just): +248v is 248, +100v and -100v both read 99 but the -12.6v is only 12. That needs adjustment, but later ¨C it is not the cause of fuse blowing.
?
At this stage I¡¯m not sure if the cause is an initial surge from the 141T at power on or if the plug-ins are drawing too much current. Since sometimes both fuses blow in the IF unit, one feeding the 12.6v supply
and the other 10V my thoughts are more that the problem lies in the 141T. I have downloaded the service manual from BAMA so I have schematics.??Are there any obvious things I should be checking?

Re: HP141T SA Blowing Fuses
There are a number of neon lamps in the power supply circuits that act as simple voltage references. As they age, the 'strike' voltage increases and eventually gets high enough that circuitry down the line draws too much current, blowing the fuses. The fix is to replace all the neons.

Bruce,
that situation is very frustrating for us too. often, first thing in the morning after posting new stuff, when susan checks the order emails, there will be *three people all wanting the same thing that was just posted*. there is simply no good solution for the two later queries, we fill the first request, and have to decline the other two. how could I possibly fix that?
on a related note, we often get people who *say* they want something, but want us to put it aside while they look for other stuff.? we do that, and then they never take anything after weeks have gone by, and after multiple emails to them. we sell the original item, and then get flamed for "not holding it for them".? wow, that is beyond irritating, and it happens literally every single month, and is also frustrating for those that wanted the same item.
so, all I can say is that we try and keep that stuff page updated daily, but that happens at the end of the day, and many items can be gone by then. since I am the *only guy doing all the web page creation and updating* , and have a lot of other work to do, I can get only so much done during one day. my apologies for any inconvenience.
all the best, walter sphere research corp.

hopefully we can fix so i can dump it
