Just posting an update for the archives...
I replaced 29 capacitors on the power supply board: 28 electrolytic and one tantalum. Also replaced primary and secondary memory backup batteries as preventive maintenance.
On the first boot it came up error code 0040 on the self diagnostics. The service manual says that is Real-Time Clock failure, Memory board. The error appeared just the one time. It has come up all self tests passed on subsequent boots. I will assume that was just some clock confusion due to replacing the memory battery. I didn't even know it had a real time clock but will look into that.
All functions seem to be working normally.

The evidence:I am now selling on test-equip-trader and Kijiji and looking at other?options. I am still waiting for my money. Note the positive feedback and Ebay fees.? I'm not sure if the fees are based on the $100 sale or the total including $35.97 postage. If on the total a $5 sale with $50 shipping could actually lose you money. Ebay would take about $10.45

Yes I totally understand and I can see that the system detected that the account was a casual seller on site. As for your reference, for this not to happen in the future, you need meet these three (3) requirements: You have to be actively selling on site for more than 90 days. The account have more than 25 domestic transactions. The account have more than ?165 total sales. Once you have met these three (3) requirements the funds will never be placed on hold again.
What is more they took 20% and I have to fight to get my funds which I have not yet seen.Maybe they hope some people will forget. I am looking for an alternative to ebay. Has anyone used Bonanza? What are you guys using? I just started using test-equip-trader. What about Paypal? Any suggestions or are they still reasonable to use to buy and sell.

No inputs on back but good info to know!
thanks

Re: Newbie question about Agilent 53131a Universal Counter
Dan, you are spot on after reading the manual last night, was up very, very late! I did look at the specs and realize the signal was extremely week and once hooked to back it worked perfectly.?
thanks?

Re: Newbie question about Agilent 53131a Universal Counter
Also worth checking is whether you have a model with the rear A/B inputs.
Both front and back inputs are active at the same time so if you leave the back ones unterminated you will get reflections causing attenuation. You need to terminate the back inputs if present (or disconnect them internally).

Dave,
The mod looks pretty straight forward. I¡¯ll get it done this weekend. ? We¡¯re you ever able to repair any of those relays?

Re: 141S Operation and Service manual
Hi Christopher,
I have a paper one dated Oct 1968 for instruments with prefix 825
I've attached a quick and dirty scan of the adjustments section if
that helps at all?
I only have an Epson A4 scanner with document feeder hinged along
the 'long' edge of the platform - which is not great for scanning
books (let alone the fold-out schematics!) but if there are other
sections that would be helpful, let me know and I'll give it a go.

All,
Would anyone have a paper or digital version of the 141S Display
Section Operation and Service manual? I have been able to share
some of the adjustments with my 140S and 140T manuals, but the
board in the photo I am looking to understand how to adjust it. I
assume it is for the storage/persistence feature that
differentiates it from a 140S.
The issue I am having with one is the intensity will increase,
then drop-off when the knob is turned more than halfway. I saw
some threads that this could be material building up on the
electrodes in the tube.
On the other, the intensity is working normally, but I would like
to optimize the settings for storage and write time periods.

Drew according to your SA in the video you are putting about -60 dBm into the counter, that will not work.? Try the 10 MHz output from the counter, Dan

Drew, If it runs the self test on power up, and you get the message SELFTST: PASS followed by the HPIB address it should then default to Channel 1 frequency measurement.? Simplest check is to connect the 10 MHz output at the back to Channel 1 input, then switch to channel 2 and do the same.? This is all covered in the manual which I'm pretty sure can be found on line.? There is also a full self test you can invoke, details in the (service) manual. There's a lot to learn from the manuals, hours of fun reading :^) Dan ac6ao / g3ncr

Exact, I mistyped the correct funcion...I have a similar problem on my 53131a but it looks like to be a relay. Ch1 does not work, but if I change to ch2 and back to ch1 it works flawlessly Enviado do meu Tele-Movel Em ter, 15 de fev de 2022 23:03, Andrew Curlik < kb2lmn@...> escreveu:

Hi all,
and a 401 point sweep with minimal dwell time of 1ms takes around 22-23s to complete.

Re: Agilent 44xx ESG RF Generator question
Hi, ? The E44xx series generators do not have continuous sweep. So, as you mentioned, there are sweep from a list or by defined step, but only for 401 points maximum. ? Yves ? Hello, I am considering the purchase of an RF generator for R&D and RF alignment purposes.? Looking at the Agilent 44xx series, it looks like the sweep functions are Step and List Sweeps.? I read the manual for these generators and could not find any reference to a continuous frequency sweep.? Has anyone experience with these to clarify?? In order to see ripple on a filter passband, continuous sweeps would be most valuable. Cheers! Howard Hoyt

Re: HP141T SA Blowing Fuses
Listen to Dave Wise. His info on the TL431 fix for the Krypton doped neon lamp works very well. It¡¯s in the group photo section, page 4 I think. Add the diode he mentions in the text for better thermal stability.
