I already found the 54712 eeprom image that you shared. Do you have any possibility, to download same firmware from the other unit ? I would like to compare. I have one 54712 unit, but still don't have programmer.?

Sorry, no, I gave up and wrote off the 54720D. I have too many scopes anyway, from 100MHz to 50GHz, not enough incentive to spend more time on this. Meantime, watching for a 54717A, ideally someone owning one could dump the EEPROM. I know if I'd get one, this would be the first thing I'd do, this HP money grabbing calibration abomination has to end.

If someone wants to pick up, I can forward the 54712A EEPROM binary.

its sorted,when i first got this it had a bad psu,recapping the psu got it going,at the time i didnt have suitable load resistors to set the 5.2v output,when i finaly checked it was at about 5.8v,anyway i set it to 5.2 and recalibrated the scope,it now seems to be spot on,i can only think the first calibration i did when the psu output was too high caused the bad readings,after a recal its now fine.

Hi all,ive an old hp 545o3a scope,i was looking at the callibrator signal from my tek 2430 with this,it states on the front panel that it outputs 400mv into 1megohm and 200mv into 50 ohms,when set to 50 ohm input on my hp scope it reads about double! that,does it need the attenuators calibrating?,if so how do you do it?,Tia.

to co-opt them to what you were doing. You got kicked off the lists
for a while not for conservative leanings, but for massive amounts of

I don't follow the Drake and Hallicrafters groups.io groups. (Those rigs were worth the effort before they became a fetish for non-technical hams... akin to Fluke anything... including hi-priced Fluke beer mugs.)

Most HP power sensors are made with magic "pixi dust", hence their high price. I have three HP 8484A sensors (10 MHz to 18 GHz, -70 to -20 dBm). Normally they are used with an attenuator because the maximum accurate input power level is -20 dBm. For calibration purposes they were sold with an HP 11708A 30 dB 50 MHz calibration attenuator. With my other well calibrated attenuators, I can accurately measure up to 1000 watts, using a calibrated 80 dB of attenuation.

The maximum safe power into this diode sensor is 200 mW (+23dBm) which is 43 dB above the useful input level. Most other HP sensors use a thermocouple and easily fail when the input power is just above the maximum rated power. I assume that to replace the thermocouple element is a very special procedure and may require some exact RF adjustments. For my purposes, the HP 8484A is more accurate than I need.

I see many defective HP sensors, listed at high prices, as parts units. I wonder if anyone actually buys them and thinks that they will repair them?
