HP 8562A input connector

My 8562A has a SMA input connector instead of the usual type N.

Is this because it's an option 26, 26.5 GHz instead of 22? Is there a
standard bit of plumbing that can be changed to get back to a type N?

By the time I go through a couple of adapters to get from SMA to BNC,
I have a rather fragile assembly - an N connector with a N to BNC adapter
would be much better.

I dont know the 3582A but am very familiar with the earlier 3561A-marvellous instrument. Used it for all sorts of things, including transient analysis, for many years. I dont know how the 3582A stacks up against the 3561A but its clearly a later model FFT analyser so you should have no problems at all using it to do what you want.
Driving an FFT analyser (Dynamic Signal Analyser was HPs fancy name-DSA for short) is VERY different to a swept frequency analyser so you need to brush up on all you can on use of DSAs-should be lots of useful info out there on the internet.

I'm pretty good at using a an HP 141T and its plugins to analyze RF
specrta.
I acquired an HP 3582A good from DC to 25 KHz and want to use it to
analyze the spectra of guitars. I can get some basic stuff which is
n't of much use and what I really need is a good tutorial or be able
to speak to an experienced user. If anyone cares to volunteer I like
to have arrange for some help.

Re: HP 3582A ??

Hello
I do believe that You are looking for a low frequency FFT analyzer. They are very easy to come by if You are willing to use the soundcard in Your pc.
There are numerous FFT programs for free on the internet. One of the best is ,but not free are spectralab from sound technology.A demo can bee dowloaded-it has a very good manual covering muost topics in FFT.

Hank,

Unless you have a means of continuously exciting the string(s) on
the guitar, you might be disappointed because this SA doesn't
work well on transient phenomena. In fact few SAs do unless
you have a special option which allows for measurements of
bursts (such as radar).

My recollection is that the 87075A/B work with the 8412/8414ET

an S-parameter analyser. Hence why you need the 87075C.

John,

you are right, I made a typing error. It is, of course, the uPA104G, and I searched the web for it. Widely available, but I have not found it in small quantities.

Thanks for the correction!

Re: HP 3582A ??

I think you should be able to perform the tests you want.

The 1982 HP catalog devotes five pages describing the 3582A. One
paragraph states:

"Transient Capture and Analysis
Many signals ... occur infrequently and spontaneously and may last
only for a brief period of time. Swept spectrum analyzers generally
cannot handle these transient signals. By using digital processing
techniques, the Model 3582A can capture and analyze transients as
short as a few milliseconds."

I would start by mastering dynamic signal analyzer concepts such as
are explained in Agilent's Application note 243, "The Fundementals of
Signal Analysis", available at:

There are other useful application notes there as well. Be sure you
have your instrument's operation manual handy and then experiment with
your instrument by analyzing tones from a function generator. As you
experiment with different waveshapes, sine, triangle, square, you will
become familiar with the operation of an FFT instrument.

From there, start running experiments. Set up a microphone and if
necessary a preamp. Get the levels right first. Then figure a way to
trigger the analyzer's acquisition at the proper time. You might even
create an electromechanical device to strum the string and generate
the trigger signal.

Have fun.

Hi all,

my HP 8131A failed, and I need one NEC uPC104G. It's an HF transistor array.
I googled for it, but only found it from $500 minimum order distributors.
Anyone has one to sell, or know where to find it in small quantity?

Using an 8341A with an 8410

J Forster

Apparently, an 8341A .1 to 20 GHz sweeper can be used with an 8410.
(there is a 25 pin D connector on the back labeled as such)

Does anyone have any info or links on this?

Thanks,

Re: 7" Rackmount flanges available?

Hi, Jim-

The holes are 1.75" apart, and there are 4 of them. This is the type that has a 6.5" x .5" x 1/8" tab that fits into the side of the case (I don't know if there are other types from this era). As far as handles, I guess I'd prefer to have handles also, but they aren't that important.

Thanks!

Can you let me know the hole spacing where the flanges
would attach to the unit. I have boxes of various

... Mike ...
I was the OP and was able to repair the scope. It
turned out to be nothing more than a bad battery. I
think that the CMOS data was corrupted, leading to the
failure to continue the self-test. It turned out that
the battery is soldered to the board under the rear
frame, and is not easy to access even if you could
find a replacement (3V lithium). I clipped it out and
shorted the terminals on the PCB for a minute to
ensure that the CMOS was completely discharged. Then I
wired in a 2 AA cell battery holder and put in a
couple of alkaline batteries. You may have a more
elegant solution, but this works just fine if you are
OK with changing the cells every few years.

After putting the scope back together it started up
right away. This is a good time to install new
firmware, just now available on the Agilent web site.
In either case you will need to go through the
calibration procedure which is easy to do. You need
three BNC Tees and five BNC-BNC cables at least 18"
long. Four of the cables need to be the same length.
The scope will lead you through the calibration
procedure. Be sure to let it warm up for one hour with
the cover fully installed before calibrating, or you
can get errors and a bad cal.

Wide cable for HP 16550A Logic Analyzer Card

Hi:

I am looking for an HP jumper cable used in a HP 16550A. This is a card
that goes in HP 16500A/B/C Analysis System and is a 100-MHz State/500-MHz Timing
Logic Analyzer. The cable I am looking for connects two 100 circuit IDC
connectors. The HP part number is "16550-61603 Cable Assembly-100 Pos IDC"

If anyone has a spare I would appreciate communication with them on- or
off-line. I can provide photos of what I need from the manuals.

Or you could put it on Putfile.com or one of the other free file exchange sites, then I could put it on my site somewhere. I've been meaning to put my datasheet library online anyway...
