to co-opt them to what you were doing. You got kicked off the lists for a while not for conservative leanings, but for massive amounts of bottom of the barrel racist remarks over the years, which kept on increasing in frequency. No one here wants to identify as a hood wearer. If you were truly about the conservative way then personal responsibility is central to that. Own what you did and stop blaming others for your situation like some *gasp* socialist :-) On Tue, Jan 4, 2022 at 12:24 AM Tam Hanna <tamhan@...> wrote:

Re: Low Cost Test Equipment
Hi Jerry:
I don't follow the Drake and Hallicrafters groups.io groups. (Those rigs were worth the effort before they became a fetish for non-technical hams... akin to Fluke anything... including hi-priced Fluke beer mugs.) Just the same... if someone was complaining about?"affordable test equipment" ... on this list... it probably wasn't about high priced junk... but, more likely about the high cost speculators are charging for HP gear. IMO, I wouldn't say I wouldn't buy a "nanoVNA", particularly if I wanted to pretend I was doing something 'meaningful' with it... and just have some fun. Anyway, I think I'll stick to occasionally?paying too much for something, someone fished out of a dumpster (and perhaps dragged behind their truck too)... and hope to 'fix' it... so I can have something I can actually used to do some 'work.' Best regards and wishes. Roy |
Re: HP11758B Digital Radio Test Set
Most HP power sensors are made with magic "pixi dust", hence their high price. I have three HP 8484A sensors (10 MHz to 18 GHz, -70 to -20 dBm). Normally they are used with an attenuator because the maximum accurate input power level is -20 dBm. For calibration purposes they were sold with an HP 11708A 30 dB 50 MHz calibration attenuator. With my other well calibrated attenuators, I can accurately measure up to 1000 watts, using a calibrated 80 dB of attenuation.
The maximum safe power into this diode sensor is 200 mW (+23dBm) which is 43 dB above the useful input level. Most other HP sensors use a thermocouple and easily fail when the input power is just above the maximum rated power. I assume that to replace the thermocouple element is a very special procedure and may require some exact RF adjustments. For my purposes, the HP 8484A is more accurate than I need.
I see many defective HP sensors, listed at high prices, as parts units. I wonder if anyone actually buys them and thinks that they will repair them?
